Since students spend a significant amount of time on the internet they should have some lessons on the dangers of social network, awareness etc and counsellors should be available for students who need advise. I guess many schools provide for all these but in this case perhaps it was too extreme.

Her principal called her smart and charming. And a boy had just invited 15-year-old Irish immigrant Phoebe Prince to the winter cotillion, the height of the social season at South Hadley High School in Massachusetts. But then police received a call.
It came from one of Phoebe's sisters. When cops arrived, they found that the freshman student had hung herself. Two days before the big dance.

Children need stiffer backbones today. When I was in school we never had bullying to this extreme. I know it's different because I didn't have the internet until I was 15 but still...

She should have told her parents the problems she was having

Parents as a whole I guess need to limit the time children can go online.

Bullying sucks and everything, but...

I'm betting there was some underlying, untreated, maybe undiagnosed emotional issues there. The bullying sure didn't help. I'm betting this gal needed some help aside from the bullying that she didn't get.

I am guessing the culture shock aggravated matters.

We have every Zero Tolerance in our Schools and Communities for bullying that extends to such activities as Cyber ( Facebook, MySpace or Texting ) where one can locally be punished or the law can access them thru mutual agreements.

Having dealt with a possible case of standard bullying yesterday for my son, I can say that within 1 hr it was resolved with all parents advised and issue closed and resolved with no issues.

Bullying is the start of a future negative lifestyle for most kids and should not be tolerated any longer..

I happen to totally agree..

I am sorry this young girl lost her life over such pettiness..

These days, if somebody gets on your ass it is all over the Net... so that everybody you've ever met in every state will know. Imagine how a 15-year-old girl would feel when she finds out that her grandparents in Iowa read that she's a "skeezy ugly cock-tease" or some such.

Paranoia is a bitch, but it saves your ass at times. Kids like Jess don't realize how dangerous it is out there and think nothing of smearing their lives on the Web. When she first started her, Jess's user name was her First and LAST name. It's that kind of naivete that makes cyber-bullying so effective.

people aren't going to like this comment, but i think that this girl probably brought it on herself. indulging in the continuous bullying and she didn't leave? doesn't make sense. i remember aol chat rooms when i was 12/13 and i dont remember seeing one "innocent" person being bullied.

None of those would stop a teenage girl from being cruel. They'd borrow a friend's phone, Facebook account, or go even farther into face-to-face bullying.

that's when a parent or authority figure steps in ffs. Teenagers are still kids.
