they never did ,not even a slap on the legs,i had consequences for my actions which i was aware of and worked for as a child.it was a very big rule in our household that it was uneccessary and wrong.

my father was beaten by his step father and so felt very strongly about it ,i was just brought up that way.

having worked as a professional in health care and social services with vulnerable people my training in that field also shaped my views on this

A few times. Not much. I didn't act up much as a child.

I've never been arrested, and I've never gotten into any major violent conflict.

My dad spanked me when I did something he thought justified spanking....I'm pretty sure he didn't even think of why he wanted to spank, but I think he did it because that s "just what parents do to their kids".

My Mother never spanked my butt when she was angry. She talked to me. A spanking was only delivered in calm control. And many times I had the option of what my discipline would be, besides a good talking to. Other times the natural consequences were lesson enough.

Absolutely not. I'm am probably one of the most happiest people I know.

In my case it's more like:

"What you did was wrong, and I'm sick and tired of trying everything else other than smacking you to get you to stop doing that, so guess what.....*smack*...."

Sometimes they talked to me about it. But I knew when I did something wrong, even before the spanking came.

They did a lot of stuff which no one has a problem with though which fucked me up more. At the end of the day, no one is perfect and I realise my parents were doing their best to raise me right. How far are we going to take it telling parents how to raise their kids? Are they going to be banned from teaching their kids religion next in case it fucks them up?

I mean, that's the cynical way of looking at it, but for a lot of parents with problem children, sometimes that seems like the only course of action. For my parents, spanking was the last resort.

There's a definite learning curve to parenting. Like my mom told me "your father and I haven't been parents until you." My folks tried all sorts of ways to discipline me. Grounding me, taking my toys away, making me drink Tobasco sauce, chores, etc.

I have to admit, I have been on the receiving end of some spankage earlier on and justifiably so. It was mainly within reason.

I have never been arrested, nor have committed any crimes nor have they made me a violent person. Quite the contrary. No I don't think my parents abused me. They were caring and loving people and wanted us to do right. They also respected our teachers for disciplining us if need be. I for one was a brisky lil fellow, well behaved most times but with a mischievous edge.

They were mainly calm in retrospect but at times I may have felt they were a bit enthusiastic a few times. I learned a few tricks of my own to counter the enthusiasm in such cases and to buffer the spankage.

I was not ignorant to what I had done to deserve said spankage. They did not spank me just for spanking sake.

My parents were fair minded people, impressed upon us the value of having morals, love and respect for others and led by example.

All in all I think they did a good job and I didn't turn out the worse for it.
