Foreign National Anthems

we have the next olympics soon ..i would consider it poor sportsmanship and bad mmanners not to acknowledge a sporting acheivment of a gold medalist in the olympics...this usually done when the competitor stands to his/her national anthem and the crowd also stand ....





( i would have an exception which is the afghani 4x4 relay team ,3 of which are taliban members )

For me, it depends on that nations ideology. I won't stand for a communist or fascist anthem.

Soviet Anthem is AWESOME though. I hate communism more then any person in the western hemisphere, but the Red Army Choir is really awesome.

Yes it is disrespectful to stay seated and quiet, because a National Anthem is same all over the world, only difference is the lyrics, we all stand when a National Anthem is sung, and as I mentioned every individual represents his/her own country.

By giving respect to a National Anthem for a foreign nation will not harm but will increase your own Nations image, I hope u get the motive behind this.

If any person just stay seated and be quiet, just proves how much respect he/ she can give to their own Countries National Anthem.

Is it so hard / tough / impossible to respect any Nation's Anthem just because u don't belong to that Nation !!!!

Thats not the point. Not standing for somehting isn't disrespect at all. It just means you do not wish to take part in it. Disrespect would be like, shouting obscenities during it.

Sorry if I'm going off the point slightly here. I just find it interesting that the whole thing about not lowering the USA flag was started as a mark of disrespect to my king. Something like that for instance, I really don't see why I should be considered disrespectful if I just silently sit through the USA anthem? These things go both ways.

YOU answered your own question, when u can't stand to your own countries national anthem, how can anyone expect that people like YOU, can give respect to other Nations National Anthem !!!!

Its not about being disrespectful to sit to those National Anthems of other countries, but its a respect you offer to those who led their lives to make it a strong nation ...Show me one such country where the meaning of National Anthem changes !!! Its same all over the world.

As YOU have accepted that you sit for your own countries National Anthem... so do you want to count how many People like you keep sitting or is it about giving Respect to National Anthems ????

Shouting during any national anthem will not be treated as disrespectful but will be eligible for a punishment ... when u can sit quietly why can't you stand quietly !!!

If sitting quietly is taken as a point, then standing quietly is also a valid point.

Peter when did this incident took place, who was the ruling party in USA at that time, did it happened once or u experienced it every time !!!!

I think you want to blame those people who didn't lowered the FLAG, if they didn't lowered the flag .. it shows their culture and awareness in society, I believe your Nation has much old culture than any other nation .. so why not go by that !!!

See, I don't care about that, good on your lot if thats what you believe was right but I also don't really see any reason why I as a British citizen should abide my this though.
