Do you stand during a foreign national anthem? Do you take your hat off? Do you even sing it? Or do you do nothing?

This was brought up last night with a friend while we watched the superbowl. I said wont sing it, stand up during, or take my hat off when I hear any nation anthem other than Australia's. In my point of view, I like to leave that to those of that country to sing and pay respects to their own national anthem.

I don't stand or any thing for it but I'm quiet enough to allow people of that country to do whatever they want to do during the anthem in peace if I'm at an event. I have no reason whatsoever to stand for any anthem other than my own. It dosen't really matter with my anthem anyway. If you've ever seen an England football match, you'd have a hard time disturbing a few thousand England supporters bellowing out God save the Queen at the top of their voice!:D

Same here Pete.

I see it as no sign of disrespect to stay seated during a foreign national anthem.

What really sucks is that the only anthem I am to sing, I absolutely can't stand. The Australian nation anthem is one of the worst songs I've ever had the dissatisfaction of hearing.

I dunno, there's some pretty crap ones out there. Can't remember who's it was, at the last world cup, but some country had one which sounded like a funeral dirge. I don't know about inspiring you and making you proud of your country, it would make me depressed if thats what I had as my national anthem!

I think it shows very poor taste and disrespect to remain seated for a foreign national anthem.

I don't see why. Being disrespectful is booing, flipping the bird and burning flags ect. Sitting as far as I know is never disrespectful at most other times so I don't see why it should be here. I fail to see why I should show some sort of symbol of respect to another country anyway, I won't show what is widely regarded as disrespect for their anthem, here. If their customs find me sitting during their anthem disrespectful, tough shit as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care less, it makes no difference to me!:smiley24:
