But the definition of murder is

The very first portion of the sentence, regardless of exact definitions just says that murder = killing.

Therefore, under certain circumstances, murder in the eyes of the law is considered justifiable.

Everytime someone is killed by another human being someone is going to have a problem with it. If someone slaughtered my family I would kill them slowly. And that is justified to me, no one else can ever tell me otherwise. But I'm assuming the question was based objectively. Which makes it another circular thread.

You can't just say "hey he came at me with a knife so I shot him from 40 feet away" and they'll just take your word for it. Through investigation they'll need to prove logistics of how it went down and what was going on at the scene.

What some fail to understand is that the definition of Murder has to do with the "Unlawful" intentional killing of another (excluding exceptional circumstances of self defense) with regard to the general population.

The punishment for committing such crime is "Lawfully" carried out by the authorities as the penalty for committing said crime.

If someone came at me with a knife and the only way to keep my life is to end theirs to the point of they either become a vegatable or put them 6 feet under then I'm going to do it.

Self defense killing is justifiable. The law says so, the courts will say so. Therefore it's justified in my eyes.

Murder is defined as the unlawful killing of another human being, therefore killing someone in self defense is not murder. Self defense is legal. You would be killing someone, not murdering them. Two different words, two different meanings.

As far as self defense, you don't hae to kill someone to run away from them, or even to scare them off. If you can shoot and kill someone who is attacking you, you can shot and injure them as well.

I have never been in a situation where it was me or the other person, no. But I have been robbed at gun point once, and had a knife pulled on me another time.
The guy with the gun I gave him my money, the guy with the knife, I laughed at and told him to run home to mommy before he hurt himself (I was a bouncer, the guy was a drunk idiot who pulled it in front of a crowd of at least twenty people, including an off duty police officer, so I was concerned)

That is assuming you are in the calm enough state of mind to aim for their leg or something. It's much easier to hit the center of their body when you have to be quick to stop them with a gun.
Besides if somebody attacked you, why should you care if the freak survives or not?

To me, killing another person is always wrong. You can always run away, fight off scare, do SOMETHING to stop a person. Killing is never right. Again, IMO.

I ask myself this, if someone attacks you to steal your wallet/purse, is the death penalty justified?
