Several Michigan lawmakers, frustrated with the defeat in Congress of an immigration law overhaul, are proposing state laws to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants.
The lawmakers, all Democrats from the state House, offered a package of bills late last week intended to crack down on employers, making it a felony to hire an illegal immigrant knowingly. Violation could mean fines of up to $250,000 and as much as five years in prison for repeat offenders.
The sponsors said the legislation would be formally introduced this month in the House. “We have no legal weapons right now in the state of Michigan,” said State Representative Kate Elbi, one of the sponsors. “What we’re doing is giving our state the tools that we need.”

I guess since the Federal government is out of touch with where Americans stand on illegal immigrants, it's up to the states to do something about this.
It's funny how the Democrats are the ones stepping up to the plate on this one... I wonder if Hannity will mention this or if it will be conveniently swept under the rug since it is dems that are pushing forward on this.

as long as the employers pay the illegals a decent wage, I see no need to fine anyone. I think its a bit much. I mean, our own American companies have been doing it for a looooong time. A great portion of the Transcontinental railroad was built by Chinese that just came over with no papers.

The majority of the Union Pacific track was built by Irish laborers, veterans of both the Union and Confederate armies, and Mormons who wished to see the railroad pass through Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah. Mostly Chinese built the Central Pacific track. Even though at first they were thought to be too weak or fragile to do this type of work, after the first day in which Chinese were on the line, the decision was made to hire as many as could be found in California (where most were gold miners or in service industries such as laundries and kitchens), plus many more were imported from China. Most of the men received between one and three dollars per day, but the workers from China received much less. Eventually, they went on strike and gained a small increase in salary.
In addition to track laying (which employed approximately 25% of the labor force), the operation also required the efforts of hundreds of blacksmiths, carpenters, engineers, masons, surveyors, teamsters, telegraphers, and even cooks, to name just a few of the trades involved in this monumental task.

I'm kind of done with trying to prove everything to you for awhile. You don't read anything I link, so I'm really wasting my time.

Eventually I'll feel froggy enough to take on your little game again, but not now.

FWIW though... I live in Southern California. I see it with my own eyes every day.

My wife is a teacher. The four kinder classes at her school are broken down like this. 1. No English capable children. 100% Spanish. 2. No English capable children. 100% Spanish. 3. 100% language learners. Unable to speak fluent English, but on the right track. 4. White / Black / Asian kids with full English comprehension.

Even more wrong than that, the school is getting into deep poo because they're breaking the law by "segregating" by language capability. The activists are demanding that we hold back our kids until the illegal kids catch up.

The school district she just left had three kinder classes, and only one had students in it that spoke English. (about half the class). That school started something called "Duel Emersion" this year. Basically, all children are taught exclusively in Spanish for the first few years, and then as they get older they work towards eventual 50 / 50 English-Spanish school day.

Call me a racist, bigot, xenophobe, all you want. I can't get behind that.

It's not "our" country?

Are you suggesting I simply sit back and take it because there isn't anything that can be done?
yes, our country is changing.

Well, unless you stop by every Spanish/Latino household and rip the ovaries out of their women, I don't see how you can stop them from becoming the the majority, which they will be in a relatively short period of time.
