It seems that everyone here supports the death penalty, supports it as a sort of revenge.

Revenge or not, someone who willfully takes another persons hopes and dreams and cuts it short doesn't deserve to survive. Either sitting in prison or walking around free. They took something from someone else which is not supposed to be within their rights.

Why should they have the right to live if they took that right away from someone else?

Should Timothy McVeigh still be alive? I don't think so. He took several childrens' lives, let alone these childrens' parents.

I understand that line of reasoning... but aren't you doing the same thing they did? Your just calling it something else. They killed someone innocent, your killing someone guilty. It's called murder when they do it, it called capital punishment when the justice system does it, but it's still taking a life, plain and simple. So by taking that persons life, it's nothing more than exacting revenge and not justice.

Don't get me wrong, I think they should pay every day of their life. They should be put away and never let out.

I find it barbaric that as one of the so called enlightened nations, the USA has a more shocking human rights record than countries it believes to be bad. Of course I'd want someone put to death if they killed a relative of mine because I would be completely biased. There have been so many miscarriages of justice because we live in an imperfect world and I really dont think we have the right to decide whether anyone lives or dies due to that. Besides, how can you tell someone its wrong to kill if you kill them yourself for thinking otherwise? Seems pretty hypocritical to me

I oppose the death penalty. I don't have a problem with killing people who commit heinous crimes, per se, but I do have a problem with the unreliability of the justice system and the arbitrariness of who seems to get sentenced to death. The unreliability is seen in the number to people who have been released from death row due to innocence, and the system shows itself to be arbitrary because there seems to be a *strong* correlation between race and sentencing.

This type of hypocrisy is being committed by our country on many levels.

Do as I say, not as I do.

My outlook on it........The criminal obviously enjoyed others deaths so he can enjoy his own death when he/she gets executed.

Thats a bad argument for murdering someone back for committing murder.

I've never changed my position on execution:

Fry 'em! 6-month time limit. Sentence is death; 6 months to carry out the execution. "Death Row" is a joke and has been for decades.

And, if it could be done, torture them the same way they tortured their victim(s); kill them the same way they killed their victim(s).

With your way, a lot fo innocent epopel would die needlessly. A LOT of people have been proven to be innocent YEARS after they were sentenced to death row.

Also, what you support is extremely barbaric and is just revenge. Revenge is something that happens on the playground, not the justice system.

You cant tell me that they dont know what they consquences are going to be before they commit murder. They "the murder" knows whats gonna happen if they get caught and if they still kill knowing whats going to happen, then by all means they need to be executed.
I dont know any other way to state it.

You're missing the point. Murdering someone back for murder just makes us hypocrites, and murderers ourselves.

Maybe Im opening another can of worms here, but what about Saddams execution?
I know there were lots of people who were glad to see him get what he "deserved"

Saddam Hussein's execution is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with the death penalty. The United Nations, as well as legitimate human rights groups like Human Rights Watch have declared his trial a complete farce. Human Rights Watch called it a "trial by ambush" in which criminal intent was never proven, and the UN complained of too much political interference resulting in a "railroaded" trial.

Although I'm not in your country, I feel C.P should be abolished in the states that still do that.

Revenge in any situation is never a solution - the feeling of having gained from it is short-lived.

I believe in them having life sentences also, with absolutely no parole. They should never be given any publicity either, unless found innocent. Crims revel often, in media coverage, making them feel they are a 'somebody'.

and what the hell does that have to do with this topic , people die in war i can't help that it's a sad fact it's not like they wanted to kill kids.

We intentionally bombed places where we knew kids were. We're murderers.

like he really deserved one , did you even see the pics of the Kurds women and children he had gassed.

Again, you're letting revenge get in front of your thinking. If someone commits a crime, no matter the severity, they have to have a fair trial.

so far it's 6 to 6 split right down the middle but i wonder who meny would change their mind if it was one of their loved ones that was murdered.

I'd rather have them sit in a cell for the rest of their lives.
