'Til college football starts.

I'm pretty stoked this year (more so than usual even). New QB, pass-first philosophy that was the cornerstone of our 2001 and 2005 seasons, dynamic receivers (including one at 6'7" with good speed :eek). Plus, we're in the midst of replacing our crappy grass field with Field Turf Revolution (FT's newest product)... and we're getting new uniforms. Found out just how many and ideas of the design last night.

We're basically getting a Nike makeover with Pro Combat Uniforms like ASU did.

For the sake of reference, these are our current uniforms... the basic design of which we've been wearing since the late 90s. We made some very minor changes following the 2005 season.

It's going to be very similar to this uniform

BSUuni_medium.jpg

We're getting red/red with blue stripes, white/white with red stripes, black/black with red stripes, and grey pants as an alternate. Plus we're getting new helmets with a modified version of our logo and the Green V. What started off as a modest updating of our uniforms turned into a full-blown Nike funded makeover. I know for certain the that black/black uniforms are going to be used for our game against Boise, as a blackout game. The red is supposed to be darker than our normal red too.. similar to this red.

I've also been told that the grey is supposed to be very similar to that as well.

So how are things looking for everyone else's teams coming into fall camp?

With all the corruption going on at this level of sports it turns me off to even watch anymore. Disgusting what this sport has turned into, well probably has been, but now they are all getting caught.

I agree with you on the corruption... but I've honestly gotten to the point where I prefer the college game to the NFL these days. There's corruption for sure, and not a lot of parity, but the NFL is full of greedy primadonnas these days. Unfortunately, there's corruption in basically any organized sport... College Football just seems to be at the front and center these days.

I guess you could argue that there would be some level of corruption with anything when people are involved. The question would be how bad and how rampant? Sad fact is that football for the most part IS the money program for the school, which in part leads to greater corruption IMO. The university I attended has won a couple of national championships, and for the most part, the football program has remained "squeaky clean" in everyone's eyes. My roommates brother was a starting linebacker for the program, and I was still amazed at some of the real nice and expensive cars some of the starting guys got to drive, particularly when their families weren't known to have a lot of money. That was back in the late 80's to boot.

Look at Ohio State and the University of North Carolina as another example today. UNC has done far worse as far as breaking the "rules" per college football, but nothing is probably going to be done to Butch Davis, whereas Jim Tressel (sp?) was forced to resign. Why?

Tressel was forced to resign because he lied to NCAA investigators. Butch Davis didnt lie to investigators. Butch should have had better control over the program and probably should have been let go, but I think UNC knows they have a great coach and dont want to let him go. Both programs screwed up. I cant wait till college football season either. Its my favorite time of the year. Im a FSU fan also, except mine is Florida State and not Fresno State. Really looking forward to this year as compared to the last ten. I think Bobby stayed around too long and it hurt our program. Things are definitely looking up.

I am ready as well. As an Auburn fan our expectations are far lower this year but we will certainly see what the season brings. We have a lot of talent to replace and a lot of young talent. We may be playing a lot of Freshmen this year.

I have to laugh, why do you think 5 Ohio state players were suspended for the following year and NOT the bowl game? MONEY

Butch Davis may not of lied, but no man is THAT stupid. Yeah, he (Davis) had no clue what his coach was doing nor one of HIS own private tutors was doing:sarcasm

Personally, I enjoy watching college football, but to be honest, if you didn't attend at the college in question, I could never really figure out why people "really get into it" with certain teams.

More important things than football in life.

Tressel lied, refused to report violations until they had already come out publicly, and showed a complete lack of control over his players. He also had a history of NCAA violations dating back to his time at Youngtown State. You're absolutely right about the suspensions though... they should have been suspended for the bowl game, and for the first five games of this season.

I've followed Fresno State since I moved to the valley in 1992... they're a valley institution at this point, especially since they're the only sports team around outside of minor league baseball. But then there are situations like my step-uncle that went to San Jose State but is a die hard Texas Longhorns fan after seeing them play in the Sugar Bowl when he won a Nokia contest that sent him there along with his sister (who is also a UT fan now).

and I'm in the spectrum of mediocrity... we've averaged 8 wins a season in the last decade. It'd be nice if we could finally win the WAC outright though, in our last year there.

Davis has show a far worse lack of control over his team than Tressel, let along coaches (come on, Davis had no clue what his coach was doing?). Kind of funny, some of the North Carolina papers were running a list comparing UNC to OSU per infractions, and OSU came out looking like a saint compared to UNC.

Lets not even get on the BCS:thumbdown

Playoff system is the only way to crown your "National Champion".

366 days until we leave the WAC and join the MWC, along with Nevada and Hawaii (football only)... Boise left today (well, not technically today here yet, but it's past midnight mountain time). Utah and Colorado have moved to what is now officially the PAC-12, BYU is now independent, and Nebraska is a member of the B1G.

Then next year when we make our move, TCU will be moving to the Big Least. UTSA and Texas State will both be making the jump to FBS and joining the WAC in all sports, as well as Denver and Seattle for everything but football.

I think that covers all of the conference moves as they stand right now... no major shake-ups have happened this offseason... yet.

The BCS is a cartel... that being said, I won't complain if the MWC is given provisional AQ status for 2012-13 like is rumored. I'll take anything that will help my school's athletic program, even if it means joining the cartel. I don't know enough about the UNC infractions, but I do know that Tressel was basically forced to resign because he lied... to the university, the media, the NCAA, everyone. There was a lot of pressure to get rid of him because of it... along with his history of violations.

Oh, and there's a reason I (and others in the have-nots club) refer to it as the "Mythical National Championship", or MNC for short. ;)

I'm guessing Davis was at least smart enough not to have any e-mails laying around whereas Tressel got unlucky by accident with one e-mail. Long story short, Davis would have to be a complete idiot not to know that something was going on (particularly with a right hand coach and a tutor his own family used). I don't think you'll find a college sportswriter in the State of North Carolina that covers football that doesn't think that Davis should be forced to resign by the university.

However, to some extent, I can't help but think that the NCAA is nothing but a bunch of hypocrites when it comes to college football and money, particularly when it comes to the BCS. You hit the nail on the head per "cartel".

I'm also in complete agreement with the MNC.

SEC Media Days started yesterday. My team has their moment tomorrow. Can't wait for the season to start.
