There have been far too many instances of posers and fake people on this site that it is hard for a lot of people to believe sob stories like that. Too many of us have been burned by buying into similar stories.

And I still maintain that, aside from certain circumstances, everyone is responsible for what they say or do and there are no valid excuses for many things people say.

I totally agree, BUT..... I am guessing a lot of the comments she made to people on here could have/had the same effect on those who may not choose to publicise their particular illness and use it as an excuse for their behaviour.:dunno

I find it hard to trust many people. Years ago when i was on chat I became really good friends with the guy, he told me he had a brain tumor and didnt have long to live he had a lot of us beleiving it. A year later he died and we were told by his sister it was devestating and took a very long time to get over it. Two months later he came back to chat.... he faked his death and it made it very hard for me to pity people for illnesses because of what he had done.

But, just because someone is having a hard time in their personal life, doesn't give them some kind of free pass to come here and act like a complete raving bitch. She didn't have the forethought to apologise, it was an afterthought, which she then tainted by acting even worse directly afterwards.

Maybe she genuinely does need some help in her life, but this is a chat forum, not the Samaritans. We're all real people with our own problems. When I've had a shit day I don't log on and tell Darrell where he can stick his motherfucking llama. Just because we've all got problems doesn't mean it's okay to treat other people like their feelings don't matter.

If she wanted compassion then perhaps she should have demonstrated that she was capable of any herself.

I disagree with you. And many will disagree with me for my line of thinking, but I feel Offtopicz IS the place to come and bitch about whatever you feel like. It's a place to come and rant and rave. I don't agree with the idea that since these things are said online, they shouldn't make people feel bad. We all know everyone we're talking to is another human being who has the ability to consider our feelings. It'd feel terrible if someone walked up to you on the street and said 'hey, you look like crap today' so why shouldn't you feel bad if you post a picture online and get the same response?

You're completely right Freight, it's up to you how you behave online. Be a dick, be a nice person, it's all under your own control. However, no one can behave like an asshole and then expect people to sympathise with them. If people want to act that way, they can't then complain that no one likes them or treats them well.

I agree that it's foolish to badmouth and expect sympathy in return. I won't deny that Ravana was capable of being one of the most heartless members in quite some time. She had a voice of bitterness and I don't know why. Still, I don't agree with adding fuel to the fire and OTz is notorious for doing that. I've been the victim of a flamewar more than once here. It's not necessary and quite childish, but it's the internet and we're bound to run into people like this from time to time.
