The other day I went to the mall with my sister and there was a talent search happening. It must have been the day that the girls were performing, unless there were no boys in the contest. Either way, this was going on it the food court, so when my sister and I stopped to eat lunch this is what we saw. There were little girls on stage dancing to "Apple Bottom Jeans", girls dancing promiscuously, wearing revealing clothes. These were LITTLE girls I'm talking about. They must have been under 10. I found it absolutely horrific that any mother, and ESPECIALLY any father, would let their daughter dress like this. You hear so many stories on the news about how little girls are being abducted and sexually abused, do you think this kind of behavior is helping that situation? It's just fueling the fire that all these sick perverts already have. Not long after the 'incident' at the mall, there was an article in Redbook magazine. To briefly describe the article, it was a woman's point of view on the way little girls these days are growing up too fast. Mothers are taking them to salons, getting their nails done, shopping for clothes, etc. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this. But when we have girls like Hannah Montana (who was pole dancing at an awards show) and Lindsey Lohan (who has been in rehab god knows how many times), you start to understand why little girls feel the need to grow up so fast. There are too many of them worried about their looks and what everyone thinks about them instead of worrying about their intellect and the things in life that are really important. Now, I used to play dress up all the time when I was little, loved getting into my mom's make-up and jewelery and clothes and nail polish, putting on her high heels, but the image girls are being force fed wasn't there when I was a kid. Is it just me that sees that little girls are becoming women faster than they should?
