I believe the board are a little more worried about the continuing future of Liverpool football club than the result of what is essentially a reserve game.

The way I understand it is that the loans are being called in, so soon any player of any value to Liverpool football club will have to be sold. Because the two Americans seem intent on selling tthe club for £800 million

personally....if the money was put back in for buying players i'd sell both gerrard and torres

I agree, but it's too late now.

Real Madrid offered £25 million for Gerrard, and the kind of figures that Man City might offer for Torres would be the stuff of British records.
Liverpool are now in a situatiom where they don't hold the strong position in negotations. There are wolves at the door and the world knows it. They'll be lucky to get £10 million for Torres now.

The first test has failed.

I think a big part of it is maybe the easy start, they were never tested in the first five and maybe they got complacent. Don't get me wrong, Chelsea will still be up there at the end along with us and possibly Arsenal/Man City, but they'll need to get something next week against Arsenal.

Agree, but they should know at least something about football before they take over a English club. They kept Benitez for 4 years before they got rid of him, and only for one season did he have a bad season, they should know that it happens in this game, no matter the history...so now we have appointed a manager based on one lucky season in Europe, hardly what you call knowledgeable. Now we have gone from one bad season to an even disastrous season

And there is Hodgson saying he knew it was a big thing to turn around the fortunes, sounding out he wanted it to happen, because we were doing fine with Benitez

I don't agree you were doing well with Rafa. I mean last season was terrible, the only reason Liverpool made Europe this season was because Portsmouth were unable to take up their Euro spot, the season before was a good challenge but to be honest that was the only Title challenging season under Benitez. The main problem is he was a coach which is more suited to the European game (and one of the reasons Liverpool did well in Europe under Benitez, but he was never a manager in the purest sense. So I think, to get a Title challenge consistently, Benitez had to go, but no, Hodgson won't make Liverpool challenge for the Title. In fact it's looking doubtful he'll be challenging for Europe.
