Is Animals Having Sex Inapropriate Viewing For Children?

lol what a weird question, I voted as long as a parent is there to explain it.
Well I found it a weird issue which I've never come across before, not sure what damage anyone thinks it will do their kids whether the're there to explain it or not. No one yet has given an even slightly rational explanation about what their problem with their kids seeing it is. All I can really conclude so far is that there are still a lot of people with serious hang ups and backwards views on sex around
I think the views that some people have over sex, is what use to happen in the 17th, where sex used to be happening in broad daylight and in public...regularly:eek

I've never come across this before either, I really don't know what to think about it.
I doubt it would scar the children, especially with wildlife documentaries, its not like its graphic

From what I've seen of British TV as seen in England (not imported) it is risque as compared to U.S. public broadcast. So it could be inferred you are less uptight than we are at least when it comes to public tv.
I'd say for a young child, if he/she is your child, depending on your embarrassment sensitivity, it should be avoided, if possible, because the discussion may come back to "you did that to make me?" and then you are not really sure how much the child will bring it up in general conversation with friends or other adults. However if it happens it happens (the child seeing it).
For the kid, it could be alarming or shocking, curious, or funny, but I would not use the word "scarred".
Wildlife documentaries frequently show animals copulating. I see no reason to restrict that other than on a parental basis, based on your comfort level.

Risque as compared to American TV? Who out of America and Britain produces the most movies? And do these movies contain 'sex scenes'? Also, can you name me two British movies or TV programmes that you consider 'Risque'?
MA does have a point, I was surprised to find out that most American stations dont show tits, ever!
I was surprised about the TV in the US. I've heard Americans calling Brits prudes and so forth for years, and was shocked at how tame TV over there was compared to back home.
Mind you, compared to the Spanish, we are prudes - boobs at lunchtime? Porn before watershed? Spanish TV's got the lot!

Actually no harm. But it boils down to the comfort level of the parent. There are kids books designed for 5-6 year olds that generally describe the process of making a baby. I voted that it was ok in the poll.
If you reread my post it said "public broadcast". I was watching a show on HBO about TV from around the world. The show from England had people frolicking around in the woods naked, showing all, wearing masks, riding each other like animals, and engaging in group copulation. It was rated R. Now I did make an assumption that was public broadcast vs a subscription network like HBO. In Japan, breasts on public broadcast are a-ok and private parts are just fuzzed out a little. I would have loved to seen the cast (at least some of the cast) skinny dipping in Lost. But that would never happen in 100 years with the prudish views of U.S. broadcast standards. At the same time you can see lots of nudity and sex on the subscription channels. Maybe when we become more enlightened regarding nudity or less hypocritical, nudity will appear on public TV. There was some cop show a couple of years ago where they showed flashes of behind.

Yeah when my friend in the states told me he'd never seen tits on tv I was shocked. I think I saw my first pair on tv at about 10 years old when I coudln't sleep and watched Eurotrash on Channel 4 :surrender
Oh and Tuffdisc if you want a British film with loads of sex in it, try Razorblade Smile. My dad taped over Snow White and me and my sister were dead shocked when we watched it. It's basically porn with a loose vampire plot somewhere.
only American stations that allow nudity are movie channels like Showtime and HBO
I think all UK channels can show nudity but if I remember rightly, erect penises cannot be shown on normal tv channels (but can on porno channels that you pay for and are pin protected). I've never seen an erect penis on UK TV and I watch a lot of late night tv when I can't sleep. Hence why channels like Sci-Fi just show soft porn like Emmanuelle (personally I love Emmanuelle, it's so hilarious).
