Ok, in life: you should be positive general. However, being too positive can harm you. Everything in moderation, as the saying goes. Now, you're positive, but that doesn't mean that you just accept everything that you hear about. You should be skeptic in certain situations, thats what I'm saying.

I just say that you are not therefore truly being positive. Your being neither. Sure if someone says to you jump off a cliff and be positive you won't die, then that is ridiculous. But day to day life, I would rather be positive in ALL I do, and I can't be positive if I'm reserving the right to be cynical or skepticial at the same time

I'm not saying that. I'm saying that you should be positive but when a situation arises where you need to be skeptical then you should be skeptical.

Because I'm realistic. Just because I may have doubt about the jobs that will be available to me after I get out of my masters program doesn't mean I'll be wallowing in negativity.

I don't think you're understanding me

I'm not saying that the two can go together at the same time, all the time. I'm saying that you can be positive with things in life and skeptical with other things in life as well.

I think we're using the wrong word here as well. Replace "skepticism" with "cynicism" and it will work better.

Being 'realistic' tends to be just another word for skeptical, IMO. But if you think there will be no jobs, what's the incentive to try? Don't you believe that you may impact your chances on finding a job with your negativity?

Well see that's just the thing, I am positive still, almost to a fault. I guess I just have watched too many people not just not fully appreciating it, but out right not appreciating it at all. I was no better than a shovel... I had my use and when I was done, it was to the shed with me.. or worse.

Either that or those people who are close to my heart I want them to feel special for being in the inner club :p

Being positive doesn't mean you have to put up with shit... just saying. ;)

Well you may need to be. I just prefer not to be :thumbup
there is a purple hippo inside of your shoe

Because there may be jobs. Plus I don't like to give up.

I like how you say that you don't understand what I'm saying, yet you actually reserve the right to decide you can judge what I'm saying.

It's quite laughable that you then had to resort to this.
No, you said you prefer not to reserve the right to be skeptic in certain situations. So, you really can't say that there is not something in your shoe. Its a silly example but it serves the purpose to show how you can't not be skeptic in some situations.

Knowing that you don't have a purple hippo in your shoe does not make you a skeptic, it makes you intelligent.

You're playing games here, and missing the point entirely.

Being positive does not make you less aware of what is true and not true, you just hope for the best, and project that things will go well.

No, not accepting something "just because" is clearly skepticism. Skepticism is merely a part of being intelligent, not intelligence as a whole.

I'm not playing games. I'm exercising logic.

I'm not saying that being positive makes you less aware. Being positive is good. I'm just saying that YOU SHOULD BE POSITIVE, but when a situation in life comes up that is rather unbelievable or needs to be looked at carefully, skepticism is needed. Hell, its how science itself works.

Your arguement is purple hippo related! You have no "arguement"!

Besides, having a different opinion is no "arguement"

Strange
No my argument relates directly to what you said.

No really you're just one of those people that can't be happy that someone has a different opinion.

I'm fine with you having a different opinion, I have put my views, but you choose to not take those on board, and instead just go round in circles until I just let you have the last word and then you get all happy and think you've won a prize at the fair!!

Well that's not happening.

You have your views, I have mine. We're neither of us going to change each others. And frankly, that pleases me

This isn't about opinions. Its about how the human brain works. A person should be positive, yet also other things when situations call for them.

I don't care if anyone thinks I'm wrong or right.

It started with my opinion that I choose to be positive to how life treats me. I'm glad that you think a peson should be positive and that you don't really care what people think. If that's true, then it's a good way to be at times!
