LOL Dana still tries to call Anderson Silva P4P best!

News - Dana White: Anderson Silva still number one P4P | MMAFighting.com

As dominant as Georges St-Pierre was against BJ Penn at UFC 94, UFC president Dana White still considers Anderson Silva the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

"No I still wouldn't call [St-Pierre] pound-for-pound best in the world, but I'd say he's number two, " White said Saturday after the fights.

St-Pierre (18-2) and Silva (23-4) are the two UFC fighters most debated in pound-for-pound rankings discussions.

Outside of a disqualification loss due to an illegal kick, Silva has been undefeated for almost four years. At UFC 97 on April 18, Silva will look to set the record for the most consecutive UFC wins with nine.

"Anderson has been annihilating everybody for a long time," White said. "Georges has some work to do now. [If] Georges takes out Thiago Alves, he's on his way."

St-Pierre's next title defense at a date to be determined will be against the American Top Team fighter Alves, who earned his number one contender status with victories over Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck.

P4P debates are fun, but I never take them serious. It's like wiping your ass with a hoola hoop, works out great for awhile but eventually you end up with shit on your hands.

However, I still think it's funny he denies Fedor's existence still.

lol, Silva is great but there are a lot of guys I think would beat him, unlike Penn, GSP, and Fedor Anderson has some glaring holes in his game, he has garbage wrestling and has proved to be very submittable in the past, I respect him as a fighter, but honestly I think the UFC has been protecting him by feeding him guys like Leben, Cote, Lutter, Irvin and now Leites, Franklin is pretty good but he doesn't have the greatest chin and is just a good style matchup for Anderson, the only other real opponents have been Henderson and Marquardt, Marquardt has improved a lot since he fought Anderson and IMO would take a rematch. that's 5 cans to 3 real opponents.

True, but I am not so sure about Marquadt. MW is a pretty wide open division.

Guys at MW I think can beat Anderson:

Marquardt in a rematch
Michael Bisping (no real reason on this, just a gut feeling that Bisping is the next champ)
Yoshihiro Akiyama
Matt Lindland
Vitor Belfort
Minowaman (I know this one sounds just plain crazy, but Minowa is just the sort of guy Anderson is known to lose to in the past)
MAYBE Chael Sonnen if he can pick up some submission defence.

Tons of people could beat him, especially in this sport. Anyone can get clipped. I just don't have a MW I would favor against him right now.

Maybe I'm just biased, I don't know, but I just don't see the big deal about him, he's on a great streak but his time will come like everybody else.

Yup, there has been a huge passing of the guard the last two years and allot of old schoolers have not taken it well. Espcially with the pride nutthuggers were fighter worship ran rampant.

Fedor's time will come to, hell he just lost that sambo match not so long ago. It's the nature of such a diverse and multi faceted sport, sooner or later someone is going to have your number. You just have to take your hat off to anyone that can hold a belt for over a year or two. It will only get harder as the TUF flood keeps coming in and new talent shows up.

speaking of TUF, Bisping Vs Henderson should be a highly entertaining season, with both of those guys on there it's guaranteed hilarity, I'm glad Hendo beat Franklin, he makes for much better TV.

What do you think of Brock Lesnar? Is he good enough to help carry the company, or is he a publicity stunt to help drive ratings.

I am a big Ace and Hendo fan, I was just happy it was a good fight and neither looked like a chump. And Hendo is awesome, he's got some seriously twisted dry humor. That and hopefully Bisping will draw some more English cats out. One thing I did like about Pride was the international feel, UFC is improviong, but is not quite there yet in that reguard.

BTW, dt3 put a sticky on this bitch!!

Brock is real, and will be a Titan when he develops his technique more. He is not yor typical fake wrestler, he has a very impressive college wrestling back ground. He moves deceptively fast with his hands and generates allot of power. He is still very susceptible to being subbed, but you have to get him on the ground first, and that will be very hard to do with Brock's backgriound.

See, the thing about the UFC is they have so many great fighters they don't need one superstar to carry the company, whereas EliteXC only had Kimbo Slice and when he failed so to did they fail, Brock Lesnar was a win-win for the UFC, if he came in and tanked he was just some fake wrestler that got exposed, and if he came in and did well they have a new star and a ton of pro wrestling crossover fans, the actual results were somewhere in the middle, he hasn't shown much actual skill yet but the potential to be one of the greatest is there if he sticks with this and develops a well rounded skill set, I'm not sold on him based off his fights with Couture and Herring, Herring was pretty much done after that first punch and Brock didn't look good against Couture at all, all he's really managed to show in his 3 fights in the UFC is that he has big power in his hands, I think he loses to Mir again.

His TD defense looks allot better, but his ground needs to improve more to beat either Mir or lesnar IMO.

I don't know if Mir can take him down, Mustapha Al Turk probably has better takedowns than Mir and he couldn't do it, and I see Kongo Vs Brock looking a lot like Coleman Vs Cro Cop, Brock will be terrified of Kongo's stand up and just desperately shoot in from too far away and get sprawled and eventually KO'd.

Both are possible, but Herring gave him fits at times grappling. And if Herring can do that, Mir has a good shot and Lesnar can give him nightmares.

Haha! Wondered when this would get stickied! It deserves it more than the gun thread anyway! Never really got into it myself though it looks good. Apparently I look like some major guy (face wise anyway) from this. Saw his poster on a bus stop once and it was kind of a freaky resemblance! :eek
