My point is not that it's impossible to overcome..because I believe that it is. My mom used drugs when she was younger and she doesn't know. It doesn't mean she doesn't still have the desire when things are rough, or that she would absolutely say no if you put her in front of her. It's naive to think that if someone gets addicted to a drug that they're magically never going to want that feeling, that high again.

I see what your saying, I thought you meant it was impossible for them to never relapse or something again

That's not the main one, and it it's called Confirmation Biased. You feel you're right, so even though the sides are pretty much even, yours is better or no other reason then you want it to be. you are incapable of weighing the evidence fairly, because you already picked a side.
:) You're right in that I have picked the side of freedom. This nation was based on it. We fought a devastating civil war over it. I devoted much of my life in defense of it. I defend yours more strongly than you defend your own. I think I detect a bit of confirmation bias in your own argument. :D

I would LOVE to hear your argument why you think freedom and restriction of freedom is a balanced idea. It should be in another thread, though. This is about the narrower idea of restricting adults' freedom to choose whether to take drugs.

Because drugs are used to control people. It's like allowing people to choose to be mind controlled. Drugs are also dangerous to more people then the one's who use them, some people on crack will murder other people just because of the drug.

Did I ever once say, anything along the lines of, "Well, your side is just wrong." Without reasons to back it up? Nope. But your side of this debate has.
My "side"? I wasn't aware this was a team event. I've missed all the practice sessions and don't know the hand signals.

So you're not saying I'm using confirmation bias, but that someone on my "side" is?

You're getting defensive, probably because you're feeling ganged up on. I'll back out for now because I enjoy reading your posts. That's more important than me making my point. :thumbup

Drugs do not control people. People allow drugs to control them. Big difference.

As far as drugs being dangerous, lots of things are dangerous. Money is dangerous... people kill for it all the time. But should it be outlawed? Of course not.

What I don't understand is why some drugs are illegal and some aren't. Smoking and alcohol can kill just like the rest of them, yet they're legal. Why is there a difference?
