Your zodiac sign may not be what you think

MINNESOTA: If you've ever read your horoscope, you may be interested in what at least one astronomer has to say about it. Turns out your sign may not really be your sign.
"This is not something that happened today. This has gone on for thousands of years," said astronomer Parke Kunkle.
The star doctors say Earth is currently in a different spot in relation to the Sun, and its equatorial alignment has changed from 3,000 years ago when the study of astrology began -- back when 12 zodiac signs were assigned to 12 different periods of the year.
Those signs you were born into are different now because the Earth's wobble on its axis has created a one-month bump in the alignment of the stars, according to Kunkle.
"Because of this change of tilt, the Earth is really over here in effect and Sun is in a different constellation than it was 3,000 years ago."
What that means to you is a Virgo may now be a Leo, an Aquarius - a Capricorn, and a Taurus - an Aries.
"So I'm an Aries now, fabulous," said Jozsef Szathmary, reacting to the news.
Szathmary has gone from Taurus to Aries in stride, vowing to his sun alignment that he is ready to change.
"I'm a ball of sunshine....wherever the sun is at, that's where I'm at," he said.
And that is just the point. The Sun and Earth are moving surely and slowly, so the stars of your sign aren't the same as they were when that sign was assigned to your birth thousands of years ago.
For your new sign, just subtract one spot on the list.
But, don't expect your horoscope reading to change. Scientists say this rotation has been known about since 500 B.C. and the horoscope calendar hasn't moved.

I'm really not serious about the zodiac...so I'm not sure how I feel about this

You lopped off Sag. :(

My only issue is that there's one that's only like 4 days long now. Why bother?

I'm still a Leo, and apparently hubby is too according to this "new" system, which makes much more sense than him being Virgo. Not to say I completely buy into it all, but some of the general personality traits are spot on.

I was born on March 29th, the sign of the aries....well, at least I think so. If these changes are taken seriously, does that mean the birthstones have changed as well......could it be that where my birthstone was once an aquamarine, it is now a diamond?!?:eek:nod:

I don't believe horoscopes. (1) They make use of the Barnum Effect (they are so vague that they can suit anyone) and applies to the personality traits they say the signs have. (2) When we read them, we go about our subconsciously looking for things that confirms the horoscope, but the things we are looking for are so vague, that it can happen to anyone. (3) Ever notice how more than one horoscope will fit you? (4) People plain and simply say that these are just inaccurate and never come true anyway. (5) It's so easy to shape yourself into believing you have the traits of your sign.
So whether I'm a Scorpio or Libra now, I won't believe it or be upset because of the reasons above which have falsified it.

Just read an updated news ( link attached below) which explains : ( excerpt)

So has your sign changed? Probably not. But it all depends on what kind of astrology you follow. Let us explain.

It may come as a surprise that there are different branches of astrology. A main Eastern form, for example, called Sidereal astrology, looks to the background stars, those famous constellations, as its guide.

Western astrology -- which uses the zodiac -- has its signs fixed to the seasons. Most Westerners, and all those horoscope pages we eagerly check, go by the zodiac. These signs follow what early astrologers called star signs, whose reference points are the tropics that form a ring around the earth. The zodiac is based on our relationship to the sun, not the stars.

In short, if you follow the Sidereal astrology, the Eastern branch, your sign may have shifted. (And most likely, no surprise to you at all: This news is hundreds of years old).

But for the rest of us, our horoscope, and our signs, are still the same. :D

I'm a plague on society (Cancer) either way. :D I really ought to be a Virgo. :cool

Lots of my friends are Cancer(s) and personality and emotions wise ( sensitivity) are almost always matched with Capricorns. So, i don't think you're a plaque ;) If you are, then I am too :p

What do u like about a Virgo?

Just as well I don't believe in the zodiac signs

:homo: and I am not into reading zodiac signs daily too. I don't believe in those. It's just interesting to know about different personality types depends on when people were born ;)

I see your point, but I find them very vague...I prefer to make my own destiny :D

Of course I get what u mean too  What am on about is just the fun part of reading general characteristics of each of the zodiac signs- though they are vague as you say which you are right :thumbup it sometimes matches with some behaviors exhibited by people under that sign. Well, mostly for those close friends I have and we just do it for fun :24: :24:

I don't believe nor follow astrology/daily predictions either :ninja

New Zodiac sign dates:You're a fish! Swimming in two directions!

New Zodiac sign dates: Don't switch horoscopes yet

So, you've spent your whole life happily smug in your star sign. You're a fish! Swimming in two directions! You're intuitive, imaginative, unworldly! And then today's Web is aflame with the news: You are not a Pisces. You are an Aquarius. Your star sign has been wrong your whole life. All along, you've been a freaking water carrier. This is not cool.
According to Parke Kunkle, a board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society, cool or not, it's written in the stars. Star signs were created some 2,000 years ago by tracking where the sun was in the sky each month. However, the moon's gravitational pull has slowly moved the Earth in its axis, creating about a one-month bump in the stars' alignment, reports the Minnesota Star Tribune. Now, during what we think as the month of Pisces, the sun is actually in the sign of Aries.
The new dates would therefore be:
Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11
Pisces: March 11-April 18
Aries: April 18-May 13
Taurus: May 13-June 21
Gemini: June 21-July 20
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23-Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20
