What exactly are we defending against? Someone destroying our property, or is the person trying hurt our family?

This is the question to me which results in a different way of looking at it. If there was a threat to my families or my life, yeah, killing is justified. If it was only about property. no! The whole thing is quite blurred though, when you're under that pressure with no time to think, it's hard to make rational judgements

originally, property. Ultimately, anything.

Would you pop someone stealing your car?
Would you pop someone stealing your stereo?
Would you pop someone stealing your tools?
Would you pop someone stealing any of your stuff
Would you pop someone breaking into your house?

If there was a good chance they had a deadly weapon, no to all of the above. Over here though your average burglar is a weedy smack head with no weapons and probably off his tits. That's why I beat the shit out of one of them. I guess if I was in the USA where there was a good chance he had a gun, I'd just stay the fuck away and call the Police.

I would... if anything was left up to the police over here i would be dead waiting for them to get to me... Its something i would rather do on my own first

My father was a cop when I was a wee little lad. A perpetrator tried climbing into our house thru a window. He ordered the guy to stop, but he didn't, so my Dad shot and killed him. I asked him if he regrets it and he does regret taking a human life, but that he has no idea what this guy intended.

you're really willing putting your own life in front of a material thing? So if you get shot in the face and die from trying to protect something YOU CAN REPLACE (I don't care if you have some sort of sentimental value towards it, it can be replaced) the car isn't worth much anymore to you, is it? You're dead.

Then my problems are over, aren't they?

You're not getting my point. If I know my life is in danger I will use deadly force to protect it.

That's really what this all boils down to. When are you going to stop arguing that point?

Because in their quest to invade your space and steal your property you better believe if you are in their way they wouldn't think twice about killing you or damaging you and your family severely?<---------Maybe?
If they were to hurt me or family/friends. I'd probably try to knock them unconscious, and then call the police. I still wouldn't kill. I just don't see any good reason to kill.

Have I got this wrong? I thought this thread was about protecting property, protecting life is a whole different matter where I feel deadly force if necessary is appropriate!

All the best with that, in the heat of the moment working out what they intend to do or not to you and/or your family, and working out how to apply just enough force so as to temporarily incapacitate them. Sounds easy eh?

So do you have a loaded gun handy in your house? What if tonight someone broke in to your house and you felt your life was threatened. What would you do tonight?

I'm just saying, if the situation doesn't call for you to engage in violence, especially over a car, then you shouldn't.

How many times do I have to say this guys? It's really not that hard to comprehend.

If I am home, and someone tries breaking in my house. I'm not going to hide while he ransacks my house, I'll either scare him off or kill him. I don't know what he's capable of, what happens if he finds me while ransacking the house? Do you think he has any compassion for my life?

I'm asking for a very specific reason... do you have a loaded gun in the house? If not, what are you going to go after him with? A bat? A knife? Would you go after him with something else and not know if you will be facing down a man with a gun?

That's why I asked if you have a loaded gun near by. Because if you don't, which I am assuming you don't, then your argument doesn't hold water. If someone broke into your house tonight, you wouldn't be in a very good position to threaten anyones life. All you would be doing is putting your life in greater risk by facing him and hoping he doesn't have a gun.

So with that, what would you do?

Yes, you'd need a gun.

Don't be taking any knives to a gun fight. :p

I wouldn't kill if the guy was stealing something from me. If he were coming to kill or hurt one of us, he'd be dead. No questions asked. Well, until after he's neutralized.

I'd throw darts at him. I'm pretty good at hitting the bullseye ;)

But seriously, The first thing I'd do if I didn't have a gun would be to go to my kids. If need be, I'd defend them by all means necessary. However, if the dood didn't come near me or them, then he gets away, simple as that. I don't keep guns in the house so he gets my TV or whatever. But he's not getting to the rest of my family without at fight.
