yeah, I would die for my country, but not george bush, he's making other americans fight HIS and his daddy's war.
the bush family's vast wealth comes from oil, i think there was no actuall credible evidence of wmd's but there were some unconfirmed reports.
he used this to create a war that would drive up oil, yes i think this president is doing just that, i hope the future doesnt reveal this to be fact, but my worst fear is thats what our boys are dyin for... money for him, im sure its not black and white as his only reason, im just saying it weighed heavily on his decission making.
and no, the wmd's and 911 is not the intelligence communities fault, its congress and previous presidents... cancelling projects and pulling funding and humanitarians making them change tactics... some of them were extremely brutal but thats what certain people can only understand.
not everyone can be "killed with kindness".. especially religious zealots. i think alot of the younger people and some older people are just being used by insane "preachers" and thats very unfortunate.
ww1 and 2 we had to fight, but this is on par with vietnam, the boys shouldnt be there. the military has always been a janitor service of sorts for politicians since the beginning of time, unfortunately politics constantly fucks shit up and make the military a necessity. yeah, there have been some people who are just fucking nuts in the past and were needed to be put down, but most of it is from politics, wich includes religion. in fact its because of the christian crusades that the middle east is as fucked up as it is. yeah, from way back when, a huge fucking domino effect through time.

Look further back into your history book, and you'll see that the Christian crusades happend long after the middle east got itself onto an unstable track.

The Crusades may be a nice excuse for some modern day extreemists, but they were by no means the root of any problems there.

with Bush in charge...I just couldn't see doing it.

I don't understand that.

I'm not saying you have to love GW, but does your dislike for him really overpower your love of country?

(Dying for something great isn't for everybody anyway, so I'm not attacking you. I just don't understand where you're coming from.)

I think her point was that she doesn't agree with a lot of what Bush does. What he may consider a nobel cause and worth dieing for, she considers idiotic.

If I were at the bar with a group of friends and one of them was attacked or theatened by someone else, I would jump into the fight and risk an ass beating for that friend. But if that person brought it on himself and deserved the ass kicking, I wouldn't jump in and take that ass kicking for him. That's the way I feel about dieing for this country. I would go and do my part if needed. But I won't die for this country in vain to perpetuate any persons political agenda.

It doesn't matter who lives in the White House. This is our country. Ours. Why let it go all to hell just to spite a guy you don't like? That's all I'm asking. It's not an issue like the bar sceen you described. I consitered myself an American when Clinton was in office, the same way I do now. No differance.

Yes,. I would gladly die for my country for a just cause,... but the battle we are in now is not just. Its not for our survival, it is not to protect our god given freedoms. It is for greed, there is no way around it. We breed greed. Capitolism is taking advantage of mankind's weaknesses. We all have our opinions,.. I will protect my family from danger, I will not use my life to be a peasant and ensure you all can fill your tanks with cheap gas. I would rather live in peace, without material greed,.. than sacrifice my life for someone elses desires. Now if "we the people" had any control in this administration, we would have spent the 12 billion PLUS dollars on homeland security, how many jobs 12 BILLION dollars would of created? Greed has overwhelmed us, we pollute the same rivers and streams that keep us alive. The big picture is unseen. Help your fellow man, thats all we can do from here.

So do you mean that if we would have stayed out of Iraq that america would have gone to shit? I belive that it would be quite the opposite. The money spent on this war could have had much better uses... the hurricane relif... homeland security... education.... the list goes on and on. Ill sure as hell die for the country if it is for a just casue. Like tim was saying, ied be fine risking my life if we got attacked, if we were provoked, or if he had hard evidence that an attack is looming. But if it were some mission creted by some suit in a office trying to finish daddy's job, and make some moeny on the side then no.. i wouldnt risk my life for that. We didnt have hard evidence that Iraq had WMDs... it was assumed that tehy did... and i also read in an earlier post be intruder that he states that "everyone agreeded on the iraq war" I think not.. if EVERYONE agreeded, wouldnt we have the UN backing us? wouldnt there have been a uninamous vote for war in congress? Well there wasnt so no, everyone did NOT agree on the war

I know everybody here has gone off on the Iraq war tangent, but that's not how this thread started, and it's not what "specifically" I was talking about.

When I said 'everybody agreed," you are correct that not "EVERYBODY" did. But the majority did agree. Most agreed, and that's the best you can ever get if you have more 1 person in on the question.

Just because the politics of the day would like to make pretend we were 'tricked,' or not given all the information we had, doesn't change the past.

Look up the vote. I'm sure you can find it anywhere. Then look up the public agreement polls from the time. Congress was given the same intel the President was, and they 'mostly' all agreed that it was time for war.

The history of it is already in the can. The anger comes from politicians who would like to be in power trying to take it out, and change it to fit their ambitions.

One more thing real quick.

Do some homework on Iraq and WMD. Look how far back you can find information that the U.N. acted on. Look for Clinton's actions and reasons because of stated Iraqi WMD. This issue is a lot older than GWB's presidency.

I'm sure you'll tell me I'm making it all up, or the information you find is wrong, but at the very least you could build a stronger arugment for your views right? So you have nothing to lose.

Let us know what you find. I'm sure people will be interested.

I know that noone really 'tricked' anyone... but more that we didnt go on hard facts... We did KNOW that in the past Iraq had WMD thats hard evidence, no debating that, but on this time around, we wernt sure, if the original intention of the war was to seek out the WMD's (which we assumed were there, didnt have hard evidence) We could have sent in UN weapon inspectors, gotten the facts on whats what, and if we found them, and iraq refused to get rid of them, then yes i would be fine with the decision on going in... but thats not now it went down. Bush didnt get the UN backing, so he took it into his own hands, which wasnt really all that good of a decision IMO.

Weapons inspectors? I gather from your post you would prefer not to do the homework. Personally I don't blame you, because homework sucks.

Had you wanted to though, I'm sure the comment about weapons inspectors (and getting the U.N. to see and publicly recognize the danger), would not have been put out there like that.

On a side note, don't let politicians put ideas in your head. Do your own thinking, and figure things out for yourself. This great nation is too grand a thing to let the power hungry erode from the inside out. You want to fight back, and that's great!! But fight back with your God given intelligence. Don't just lay down and be a zombie for the most angry 'suit.'

We all owe ourselves at least that.
