Why are countries around the world taking steps to deal with it? No it might not make a difference, but then it might especially if substantial portions of your country end up under water. You ever play Vegas? People make bets all the time without a sure outcome because they are worried what ignoring a problem could turn into.
Two things really. 1 it's politics and 2 it's a cash cow.

Actually the two things are- reducing CO2 emissions and being more efficient is always a good thing no matter what you think about it. While some will politicize it, it's a real quality of life issue.

On as side issue, Minor--truthfully--how many times did you have to change your depends while watching that Palin speech? :24:

Just because you wear Depends don't assume we all do...

Palin is a wonderfully illustrative Republican way-of-thinking-pick. :ninja

I'll bet my house he has no idea what you mean on that second part.

Interesting that the Kyoto Protocal was rejected in the Senate 100 to 0 (or 99-1)--when's the last time you saw the Senate come to that kind of agreement. Tells you that there is certainly something wrong with that Protocol. What it really is, is just another scheme to re-distribute wealth.

I saw some of the speech on the news.

It was like being at seaworld, she barked some nonsense, threw a fish out to the audience and the plebian seals slapped their fins together and barked back in unison.

Hey, let's define "kick ass" speech.

1) A speech that you take a day or two to write, originally authored, made up of your own ideas with a kick ass delivery.

2) Practicing several days to read a teleprompter, a speech written by a professional speech writer possibly without an original Palin thought in it, with a kick ass delivery.

I tend to be more impressed by choice No. 1 as I could have practiced for two days to read a teleprompter. I'm looking forward to Palin fielding the hard questions before the election, not that I'm prejudging her. I just want to see how she performs in something other than a canned environment. :)

Stumbled across this on the net: As A Student Sarah Palin Switched Colleges 6 times in 6 years. Does that mean anything? Probably not.

Your barking up the wrong tree because Obama can't string two sentences together without a teleprompter. And in case you missed it, the Teleprompter malfunctioned and Palin had to do a lot of that speech off the top of her head.

Finally, every politician uses the teleprompter and very few of them can pull of what Palin pulled off--face it you are scared shitless of this woman and with good reason. You can't attack her on Iraq (she's got a son in the service), you can't attack her on the disabled (she has a Down Syndrome child), you can't attack her "elitism" or as "Rich" as she is about as down to earth as one can get. Much closer to real American folks than Obama, Biden, or Bush could ever hope to be. Hell, her husband is blue collar--she got a regular American family just like everyone else. She going to seal your party's doom in the president election my cynical friend.

Her speach was great, I agree. That lady sure has momentum! But, that little baby of hers stole the show. Did you see everyone passing him around while he was asleep? Priceless :) And, when Palin's little daughter licked her fingers and fixed the babys hair, I could almost hear everyone saying, ahhhhhhhhhhh, how cute :D

In Mulder's words, "you have missed the point again". The issue is not reading a speech. The issue is original ideas. She can be trained to read a speech written by someone else. Bravo. And you and all the Republican con artists are trying your damnest to paint Obama as elite. This level of dishonestly to achieve political victory is for lack of a better word, disgusting. :yuk

I've never heard a better reason to vote Republican in my life! :D

A Harvard educated lawyer who taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago and lives in a multi-million dollar mansion in Hyde Park. Hell no, he's just your average Joe, no elitism there.

OMG is all I have to say--I had serious doubts about this woman BUT OMG she hit one out of the park--she absolutely lambasted Obama and his boatload of whining liberals. My God was it great to hear a REAL postive woman talk after months of the whining we have listened to from Clinton. This woman is an EVERYDAY woman--the liberals can't attack her on Iraq because her SON IS HEADING THERE IN A WEEK!!! She is a liberals worst nightmare!!! LOL!!! :D

Just about EVERYONE except the liberals agree this may be the greatest political speech EVER!!! :D

:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

To be honest, your title of this thread says it all. I'd be more interested in what she'll do for the country if she gets in, than how much of the oppositions arse she's kicked.;)

ahh, fox.....people love what they want to hear....surely a lawyer can understand that? :p

palin's come out of nowhere for the same reason obama has....they both are good speakers and like listening to themselves....they both have some sort of vision for the way things need to be....

but her saying what you want to hear is so incredibly brillaint in your eyes only because she's parroting your position....relax....you just got a case a palin envy.....

honest to god truth is that i think her selection was strategically brilliant.....and it scares the fuck out of me that mccain will get elected, die in office, and this woman will become president -typical political shortsightedness

for all i can gather, she is ruthlessly ambitious....the thing somebody here quoted her as saying last night...that she, unlike obama -who is running for himself- is running for the "good of the country" (or something equally noble)....well, nothing in all the crap that's been posted about her has indicated she's any different than he is.

it boils down to whether or not you like her views....and all that mush about her popularity.....
hell, i live in a town of ten thousand....i'm popular....can i be vp? :24:

I would share your concern if the reps had any control of congress which they don't

I am much more concerned about the dems having control of all 3

Bush sucks, but the congress is right there with him.

Give Reid , Pelosi and Obama all the power and it does not look promising

As opposed to Joe Biden? Who you kidding. That man makes Dan Quayle look brilliant.
