The burden of proof is on the person who claims something exists. It is impossible to prove that anything doesn't exist - I could say that there's an invisible angel watching my every move, who only talks to me and makes good things happen in my life. Can you prove that that's not true? No, it's impossible.

If you claim something is the truth, the burden of evidence is always upon yourself. Asking other people to prove something doesn't exist is futile. If you think it's there, either you have to be able to admit that there is no solid evidence and your belief is based upon subjective circumstances, or you have to produce actual evidence.

Most people with religious beliefs are unable to do either. They can't produce evidence, but they also won't admit that their beliefs are no more backed up by evidence than any other mythological stories.

Also in regards to where you're raised affecting your religion more than anything else - I agree with Tim, if any of us had been born in a Muslim country then would we be Buddhists, Atheists or Christians? No, you're far more likely to be Muslim. If your religion is based almost entirely on where you born, then that suggests that whatever the truth is, people don't come to it through critical analysis and study, they are either born into it or are surrounded by it in their culture.

Well said and I agree with you - not completely, but I agree with you. As I said earlier, most people's defense for or against His existence is based on opinion, belief, personal experiences and blind faith.

Not so much against it, most peoples defence against it (I would assume) is that there is no proof.

I think I'm going to start a new thread....conclusive proof - for or against? It is really hard for believers of the Bible God to debate their belief. Our source of proof is the Bible and personal experiences. It's hard to use that as a source of defense since it is primarily the the reason for doubt and unbelief. This is when it gets really hard for believers to debate. Life experiences or faith...as HK said, you can prove that someone didn't experience something - you can call them a lot of names, but can't prove them wrong. At the end of the day - life experiences can't prove something true or false.

So where is the proof and can it be proven? Regarding religion and ultimately God, I feel that is up to the person searching for answers to decide whether there is enough proof for or against the existence of one creator - one god.

Well, tbh, I'm not trying to dis-prove anything, if people believe in God, then fair enough, who am I tell them what to do or think. I only have a problem with Religious people when they try and push their beliefs on people who don't want it pushed on them or tell me that I'll be burning in hell for not believing etc.

I know you don't do this though DD, you have a great attitude about all of this actually:thumbup

Agreed on all accounts.
My only real issue with religion at all is just the instances where people are oppressed or harmed in any way for sharing a different view. I also do not wish to have religion of any sort be a part of my government. Faith and religious beliefs should be personal, and policies intended for everyone should not be molded from those personal beliefs.

Other than that, have at it!

Would you change your view a bit if you had these types of people around you?
