I am so Pro-American.....but man I am tired of hearing our governement trying to make everyone believe our way is the best way. I personally think that Iraq was a HUGE detour to 911!!! I am tired of hearing it being used at the excuse for the war on Iraq. I am VERY glad that I live in free America...I dont want to move to Canada, or the Middle East for that matter...but who are we to demand that our type of governement is what the rest of the world has? I know I'll get flamed, and if you are a flamer, you dont understand where I am coming from.

Where is Saddam??? What about Iran??? What about the damned oil prices??? Oil for Food??? I dont have any oil...do you???

If we must be over there...can we be honest and call it what it is?? A retaliation to 911 it is NOT.

:dunno enough about it to really make any statements.

But, hell ... I dunno... the war was at first about Weapons of Mass destruction... no wait that was just the lame excuse for the war. Since that little speech backfired for Mr Bush...

...then it became about the Iraqi "government" aiding and abedding the Islamic Terrorist networks. Which to an extent was the truth. But we all know there's no way to stop sporatic attacks from a large network of idiotic extremists who don't have a central operating facility or country for us to go in and raid. So since we couldn't seem to find Osama or very many of the higher end extremists...

...then it was about Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mission accomplished there, right? The Iraqi's (the ones that aren't the extremists) were happy when Saddam was caught. It means they could finally have the modern luxuries they never could before.

What's the number of US soldiers killed overseas now? Last I remember it was somewhere in the 1600 ledge. These numbers pale in comparison to the numbers killed in the senseless trench warfare tactics of WWI, and those numbers pale in comparison to the amount killed in WWII.

As saddening as it may seem, that's life & that's war. Had WWII been televised like these past few wars from the last parts of the Korean and Nam wars to the wars of today, nobody would know the difference and life would go on in the States. TV puts a big strain on the presidency, it puts him under a scrutinizing light. Americans know more about what's going on than they ever have before. WWII you rarely heard bad news, just good news. Now you hear it all, in real time. IMO that's why the war on terror, or Iraq, or whatever is getting a bad rap in the States.

Did you know they only count those that actually died IN Iraq??? If there was a soldier that was wounded, then sent back home, to die here...he is not counted.

Although the numbers are not equal, does that mean this war is not as bad? That entire comment is saddening!!!

Mr Bush is putting a strain on himself, and not even trying to make it seem worthwile. IMO - He just doesnt give a crap...its all about the Benjamins! That is what is causing the bad rap.

1st comment. That's my take on it. Whether or not they were actually KIA or died peacefully at home is sort of irrelevant.

2nd comment. My entire point was that TV and media plays a HUGE roll into war, WWII wasn't protested because people weren't seeing real time images and videos of what was going on in the Europe and Pacific fronts. Downplaying the soldiers killed wasn't my intention at all.

3rd comment. What kind of extra cash is Bush making off of this? If anything it made the gas mongers more greedy. Perhaps that's part of the reason the opinion on the war with Iraq has taken a nose dive over the past year.

Mr Bush IS a OIL monger, in turn he is making tons of loot. Never put an oil man in the presidents seat. I just saw on FOX News that gas prices in Isreal and other middle east countries are averaging $0.12 per gallon.... :wtf

I served during this war. I did an 11 month tour on the USS Abraham Lincoln. I love living in America.
As far as the war on terrorism goes, I am not sure if we have progressed or not. Many terrorists are crossing the US/Mexico border. Alot are living in Southern California. There are more here than anyone realizes.

Here is a quick off topic thought....

If so many people are not happy with Bush, why not start with the impeachment stuff again? Clinton was in danger of impeachment and all he did was sleep around. I'm sure he wasn't the first president to do that as well.
If I remeber correctly, gas prices were rather low when Clinton was president... :dunno

I think thats my biggest problem with the entire thing. How are we any better off? Gas is nearly double what is was last year alone. And I am not harping on gas alone....that fuels "no pun intended" the entire nation. IF gas prices are up...then prices on EVERYTHING are up. Even Blockbuster just raised their rental rates to help alieviate extra expenses from higher shipping costs. Has anyone bought a tomato lately? They have to be transported. Even the precious Mustang parts you buy have to be machined by fuel, and then delievered by fuel.

I dont see that we are getting anywhere. It is more than well known that terrorists are and have been in the US for years...decades. They even picked the little hick town of London, KY to settle.

As far as Clinton goes...while I do not have the same moral beliefs as he does...he still seemed to do more for US. I honestly couldnt care less who wets his whistle....but I do care who is getting all of my gas money right now.

Not to sound like an asshole here but - it seems like you have a MAJOR problem with the price of gas vs what it was 3 years ago, which is pretty much the only thing you've harped on in this post.

I don't see how the war really has much to do with gas prices anyway. Last I checked the war started in 2002 and only recently have gas prices soared above 2.50 a gallon.

I dunno. :dunno I just think we NEED to police our borders better. Pull some of the troops out of there and put the ones that haven't done shit (yes there are some that haven't) on border patrol.

Yes, I guess I am harping on gas prices...I am pissed off. I just put $25 in my tank and got just over a half tank...last year $25 would not have fit. Then I come home and listen to the damned media (OReilly) talk about how Cindy Sheehan is an idiot. Well isnt this America?? Arent we allowed to speak our feelings? Then he turns around again and again referring to 911. THE WAR IN IRAQ HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH 911!!!!!

There are worse things in this world than what "we" think is wrong. This war is not for the Iraqi freedom...which if it were...who do we think we are to tell them they need to be free. Isnt that sorta like saying only Catholicism is right, or only Jews are right, or maybe thats the problem there.

Last I checked, 911 happened in 2001 and thats when gas prices started to really soar. Up untill then gas was anywhere from $0.95-$1.15 per gallon. It has more than doubled since then. If you can honestly tell me that you think the war has nothing to do with the prices of oil, then I can say that you are honestly blind. The day of 911 I was working and I had to fill my work truck up. within 1 hr of broadcasts of the attacks you could absolutely NOT get into ANY gas station in the entire town. I say we tap the resources we have here in the US. I doubt that would stop the rise in prices but I guarantee you, if the overseas suppliers see that we can live without them prices will level off. Busch knows this too but coming from an oil family, he doesnt want the prices to level off. Just my 2 cents.

I definitely agree. I know the president wants to make the country safe, but he's just making us more of a target by not getting the hell out of there. I heard on the news the other day that Saddam being executed is pretty likely, and it may be pretty soon. I don't know a lot of details on that, I'll try and find a newslink about it. It seems to me like although things aren't 100% stable, Iraqis have their ideas on what to do about recovering and what to do with Saddam.

It makes me tear up every night to see the news covering Fallen Heroes. I'm sure Carebear has seen the 5-6 Marines on the news that are having memorials and all that in the last week. It's so sad. In fact, one girl I went to high school with lost her brother, David Kreuter I believe his name was. I didn't know her all that well, but it still hurts me to think we are losing so many of our loved ones for something we don't really need to be involved with anymore.

I don't know if the gas problem is directly connected to the war, but it's really ridiculous. Our president should be looking after us and trying to help alieviate the problem-- it seems to me he's done nothing of the sort.

I recall getting gas in 2004 for 1.99 a gallon, which was a mere 90 cents more than 01.

There's a lot more than the war having to do with even that small increase. Demand is up. Supply is getting lower and lower. Pessimists say by 2040ish we'll have no more oil, optimists say by 2050. In reality, that's only a ten year difference. Prices will really start to soar then.

Yes, I have seen the memorials for our local heros....every city has them. What makes me cry is knowing the amount of civilians that are being killed daily. I dont have exact numbers of casualties, but 1 civilian is too many.

The gas prices...the death...the freedom?? I'm sorry but I just dont believe that so many people are loosing their lives for freedom...not this time.

Does anyone happen to know where they are trying to pipe all that oil???

One guess....its not here!!
