Accommodation for a family, so it needs to be a smaller sized SUV at least. Power locks are important only because sometimes it's hard to get the doors unlocked manually when you've got your hands full with kids. Other than that, as long as I can plug my phone into it and listen to music, I don't care. I just need reliability and A/C. I spent this past summer driving a car with no A/C in Phoenix and it was horrible.

What makes me buy a car is when the vehicle I have is just about to quit (or has quit).
I like driving. But it doesn't matter much to me what I'm driving. An old junker is fine with me, as long as it's running good. I just don't get much out of driving fancy cars. And that's a nice problem to have in this economy.

Not caring about how nice or new a vehicle is when looking to purchase a car can be a nice problem to have, especially in this economy. Some people shell out big money for a new vehicle. And a lot of those folks can't afford it.

I've never been a real stickler about keeping that I've owned in the past clean and spotless. However, I've always done my best to keep cars I've owned in good condition mechanically, and it's paid off. My last car was still doing it's job when I sold it. It had 173,000 miles on it. And during the 7 or 8 years that I owned it, I never had to add more oil to it.
There's a saying, if it ain't broke, no need for a fix/replacement, but old cars tend to be gas guzzlers
Need the SUV for the family mobile and than Dad needs his personal car. Usually a sporty something. But, we haven't gotten a new car in 6 years. We have 3 vehicles, and for some reason they are all silver/gray shade. It just worked out that way.

Unfortunately, trading your used car in for a new one at a dealership isn't always a good idea. You often won't get what the used car is worth.
Then what good is the Kelly blue book then? guesstimates?

KBB is pretty useless. Dealers will typically give you $2K less than what trade in value is on KBB.
As for me I need 4 doors, a decent amount of trunk space, a moonroof, bluetooth and a nice stereo system. I'd prefer an SUV but due to gas mileage I have a mid-size sedan. I'll only buy silver, gunmetal, gold or black cars because they get the best resale value. A light interior is a must since it gets fairly hot here in the summer. I'm still not sure about leather interior... simply because I hate sticking to the seat in the summer when it's hot. It looks a lot nicer though and since it usually comes with heated seats I'll probably stick with it in the future. Automatic is a must.
you know my silver colored, white interior LEXUS IS 250 has "cooling" seats? just like in the winter where it keeps yer tushy nice n toasty? in the summer it prevents your butt from getting sticky and having that awful feeling...and when I get into it during the summer the seat is never really that hot...
obviously, gas mileage and environmentally friendly isnt what we were looking for since we got an SUV!
since those 2 arent a big issue with us, i went with look/style first and foremost, second was space/seating, third was towing package/capability. Although, it is designed to help with gas mileage. once you get above 55mph, it shuts down from V8 to V4 to help save. and it uses the FlexFuel, but the closest FlexFuel station we have here is Houston....2 hours away :cool
my Tahoe has removable 3rd row seating. right now the 3rd row seats are sitting in our spare closet since we dont need them right now. once i start hauling DS and all his friends around and carpooling their sports events, then it'll come in handy! and we'll use it for when we go on vacations/long distances giving the truck a rest.
it can pull our boat and again, give Chris' F-250 a rest!
