I never got the whole Catholic thing. It's very severe. And I don't like to think that your sins are forgiven that easily. It seems silly to me. If I were God, I'd make the process a lot harder. Like, I'd only forgive your sins if you ran a gauntlet of swinging blades and crocodiles.
Catholic's are just cool like that bruh, this 'confession'. seems cool to me. I just say all the things i did wrong and im good to go right? do i accompany it with a prayer though? and do i need to sit in that booth...looks kind of wierd

the confessional thing i think is counter productive to teh casue..you give soembody an easy out and then they think they can sin all they want and then whipe the slate clean after 30 min in a toiletless porta-potty.

the whole point of confession is honest guilt for ones sins and sincere earnest to do better..

lol. yeha i'm agnostic..lol.. i shoudl shut up about religion :p

I was raised Christian, but that left a very bad taste in my mouth....

I'm sorry lel, but that had me falling off my chair when I read that. But you got it wrong, it's the catholics that have that problem. :24:

Sorry, it just seemed funny at the time

Yeah I'm pretty sure when you confess you're actually suppose to feel bad about what you did, and try not to commit the same sin in the future. If you repeatedly keep on doing the act, then it's pointless to confess.

Well I was raised in a religious cult which has left a very bitter taste in my mouth about religion. I believe in God but not in organised religion. I personally think the world would be a better place without religious types spreading war, terrorism, intollerance and hate everywhere!

I agree with you.

From my opinion on religion is that it's starting to fade. I work at a nun retirement home and they used to house around 100 nuns. There's now only 30 nuns living there. This is just a fact that religion is dying. People don't have time to go to church or practice religion these days. Back than religion used to be priority. These days you don't hear about it much.

I think everyone should believe what they want .. AFTER .. they do some serious research on many religions.

Don't pick a religion because it's easy, or you like the fact you can confess and be done with it. You need to beleive the core root of the religion. If you aren't into it .. don't call yourself that. Nothing worse than a religious hypocrit spouting stuff at you that they themselves don't practice .. only preach.

You aren't going to know exactly what happens until you die. So it's a crap shoot. Better be happy with it beforehand, or those last few minutes alive are going to be a bitch.

I was raised Southern Baptist, but I haven't been to church since I was 14. I believe in God, but I don't agree with all the restrictions Baptists put on their members (then turn around and do anyways behind closed doors).

I try to behave like a civilized person .. and if I do something really bad (and actually feel bad about it later) sometimes I'll say a little prayer and ask for forgiveness.

That doesn't happen often though.

I don't believe that people "choose" religions. I believe they are called to be what they are. I am a christian, and believe in everything that the bible has to say. I was raised southern baptist as well, but I don't really like to box myself in like that, I'd rather just say I believe in the bible and everything in it.

Yeah, if I were to try telling that to any of my Southern Baptists relatives .. I might get it out .. and the reprocussions would last the rest of my life .

I have gotten hounded every weekend, since I quit going at 14, to go to church on Sunday. I tried to offer a re ason at first .. now I just simply say " because I don't want to" when they ask why I won't go, and leave it at that lol.

You'd think they'd eventually give up. You'd be wrong if you thought that lol.

What I meant by pick, was do some research (if the one you were born into just doesn't seem to fit you) .. look at the aspects of each one .. and see if it relates to how you feel. If it fits your life .. that's the one for you.

my parents used to bug me about it. But now they respect the fact that I have come into my own and don't need them hounding me about my personal faith. They have given me some books over the years and stuff, and I don't diss the fact that they go to church every sunday or anything like that, and I think as long as there is a mutual respect on both parts that things will be ok.

I wish mine would do that. They just refuse to give it up. I guess they think if they ask "just one more time" that I'll give in lol. And it's not just my parents that do it .. it's my mom's whole side of the family lol.

You are right, people don't generally choose their religion, it's choosen for them by their parents. It's not until later in life that you acutally get a choice. By then, the religion you grew up with is so engrained into you that change isn't likely.
This is one of my questions to those that believe that "their" religion is the "true" one. When the only reason that they believe the way they do has to do with what they were taught when they were younger.
If you seperated twins at birth and put one in a devoutly Christian home and one in the home of a devout Muslim, they would both grow up believing that their religion was the true one. But they can't both be right, so who is? Would you be able to get them together and agree on who is right and who is wrong? Like I said, it's all about how and where you were raised.

Depends. Like I said I grew up going to a methodist church. By the time I was 16 my parents had gotten me so sick of HAVING to go that I gave up on religion all together.

I would seriously get grounded for the week if I didn't go to at least one of the 3 services on Sunday morning. I stopped going when my dad stopped going, and then I started reading more and more about religion and the alternatives. I decided that I wanted proof of a God first, so I declared myself agnostic... but now I just don't care. It doesn't matter if there is a higher being to me.

I know James, that's why I said that change isn't likely.

I know I have changed views from what I was taught when I was younger.
