I've personally never witnissed it, but I hear about it online and stuff. Why exactly would people NOT support our troops? I can understand if they don't support their war, but why not support the troops and wish for them to come back safely? I saw this picture just a few minutes ago-

That's pretty ignorant if you ask me. They're defending our country, the least we could do is show our support for them.

All of those ridiculous signs aside, no one should be obligated to support anything if they do not want to.
True. But supporting our troops should be like being in favor of oxygen. I love oxygen, because without it my life would be waaaaayyyyy different.

Oh come now, thats a bit of an exaggeration. Of course the military can keep us safe, but they aren't the only thing that keeps us alive or free.

What else besides the military keeps our country free?

The President, the Senate, the House of representative, diplomats, ambassadors, etc.

They are all the very first line of peace. The military is nothing more than the muscle. Most peace deals and negotiations are not a result of the politicians threatening war, but by working out deals. We are not only a military super power, we are also an economic superpower with resources the rest of the world wants. And if they want to play ball with us, we don't have to threaten to destroy them, actually most deals involve economic gain.

Most people, such as terrorists, that are going to threaten our freedom could care less about peace deals and negotiations. So while I can appreciate what the President, the Senate, etc. do and the role they play in 'promoting' freedom - it is our men and women in uniform that put their lives on the line for this country when our freedom is threatened. Our freedom is secured by our military.

The only terrorists that are a direct threat to us would have to be in this country... and if that's the case, then it's law enforcement that deal with them, the military are forbidden to operate on American soil.

I agree that we need the military, I agree that the role they play is extremely important and necessary. But I disagree that the military are the only ones that keep us free.

And what we are doing in the middle east is not fighting for our freedom. We are fighting for our safety. There is a big difference.
If China were massing on our borders preparing for war, then we would be fighting for our continued freedom. But some radical terrorists will never conquer America.

Just because a terrorist is not a 'direct' threat does not make them any less of a threat to our national freedom and security imo.

I agree that they pose a threat to our security, but they in no way threaten our freedom.... well, that's not true... they can remove our freedom via our own government.

Middle eastern fanatics would have our way of life wiped off the face of this world if they could. You can bet your hairy butt we are fighting for our freedom.:p

People in this country that have the mindset that radical terrorists can't drop our country to it's knees (even if it is only economically); that have such a lackadaisical approach with our national security; that didn't take other terrorists attacks seriously and actually act upon them is part of what allowed 9/11 to happening imo.

So I'll just have to agree to disagree with you.

But what else is there? Without all of the soldiers that have served America we would be English if we were alive at all and even then we would have the English military protecting us. They are, perhaps not fully but a majority of, what is keeping us alive, safe and free. Think about it.
