What if McCain had won in 2008 ?

OK everyone loves to hypothesize what the other party member would have done had he won.. Let’s hear what you believe the world economy would look like had McCain had won the election in 2008 and why ?

It'd be just as bad or worse. I believe that if McCain had foreseen the economy being a big issue, he would have nominated Romney for VP and won in a landslide. If that had happened, I think the situation would be better, but still not ideal.

Well, the Health Program would not have been passed (I don't think) but as far as immediate economic impact if McCain had held back on stimulus money either the economy would about the same today ( if you don't believe that stimulus money works) or maybe worse (if you think stimulus helps).

Long term issues are trickier. It's been said that the Great Depression happened because, those in charge of government just stood by and let it happen. So far it seems like the the second Great Depression was averted but the worries on behalf of conservatives concerns long term prospects and a government budget that approaches stability. It just galls me that you heard no real yells of dismay as the economy headed over the top of the roller coaster led by the party that conservatives supported, because their team was in charge. Then after they lose an election all of a sudden they got their values back. So much for integrity.

and it galls me that the left who whined to no end about Bush raising the deficit doubled and tripled down on that and now see spending as the only answer. Both sides don't give a damn about anything but getting reelected

it's pretty simple though - Bush handed all of the money to the elite and gave nothing back to the people. Obama is increasing the deficit but actually trying to help the country rather than just making his chums rich.

true, but a lot of citizens are heading north of the border to get their drugs...

That's a Big Pharma issue that is USA home made.. Our medication costs are still high compared to world prices, just low compared to the US and only higher due to our government compliancy to push them up. However in Canada we do not get free medication from companies.. You cannot apply for free medication as you can in the USA..

Any more complaints ? :D

But there are two ways to spend money. Just like any business, you can spend money that gets a return on investment and you can spend money that does not.
Bush spent like a drunken sailor with zero ROI, and while I don't think all the money Obama is spending is as aggressive as it should be, it's being spent with a ROI in mind.
If you invest in the country by creating programs that raise our GDP or create meaningful jobs, then those things will work towards reducing the debt that was created with those programs. Ideally there will be a greater return than expenditure. This is what the democrats try to do (in concept) while the republicans spend without regard to ROI

There would be no real difference other than the healthcare bill that has nothing whatever to do with healthcare. McCain would have thrown the money basically the same way Obama has. Obama hasn't changed the Iraq/Afghanistan policy and neither would McCain. McCain probably wouldn't have nationalized the failing industries, but he would have spent us into oblivion all the same.

Oh ... we'd have invaded Greece to help them out.

And both do it without regard to the Constitution.
