I don't know what the rules are that separate 1st world from 3rd world countries, but my impression of SA has always been that you guys were the gem of the continent.

Sorry to hear you dislike my country so much. Middle East foreign policy mostly?

SA may be the gem of the continent, but let's be fair... that isn't a difficult title to get. It certainly is no gem by the standards of any first world country.

Let's just say, the US, as in the actual land, has some lovely places in it... but the people who run it, I'm not so sure of.

Badboy, I believe it was mainly used out at sea, or maybe on land (not sure) in days gone by as a visual means of communication from a distance to communicate (in the case of ship) that your vessel was in distress.

Those who display the flag inappropriately upside down, otherwise than for which the signal was intended, I would venture to say that they very well know that it is a disrespectful manner to so do.

I know full well that America is not a flag nor is any country a flag, but a country's flag is the symbolic representation of a country and it is internationally observed that it ought to be treated with respect.
no it was also used on land.

Oh and I don't care if anyone finds it disrespectful. See: 1st amendment.

Alright wise ass. If it's nothing but a piece of cloth, then why do you have one on your wall?
I have it UPSIDE DOWN on my wall as a protest against blind nationalism, the war and the current state of things. Not because I get a hard on from merely looking at it. I can love my countrymen and country and not get all riled up over a flag. The laws, virtues and constitution (which I have a large copy of on my wall as well right next to it.) is important.

The clothes you wear. Cloth too. But yet it represents your personality, the way you are...a very representation of yourself. Not so?
If anyone lets their clothes alone represent who they are they are morons.

Are you a ship at sea flying the flag upside down, as an exception to the proper and respectable manner of displaying the flag, for the purpose of sending a distress signal to another ship under those circumstances?

Again, you should be ashamed of yourself. To be so flippant and disrespectful to the symbolic representation of the very country that gives you the privileges, education and quality of life that you so enjoy. Whatever shortcomings you think your country has at least show some respect for it. You have a lot to be thankful for that others would gladly trade places for in a heartbeat. You really don't miss the water til the well runs dry.
So wait, I can't voice my distaste for the people in power and our policies now because you cry on your pillow at night because I do something you disagree with in the privacy of my own home? Do you stop supporting other's rights when you disagree with them all the time, or....?

Something I find incredibly interesting about the people who generally invoke the 1st Amendment.

They will GENERALLY be the first in line to put the smack down verbally on anybody who says something they don't like, but will also take great offense to the very idea that anybody would challenge their own version of expression.

Like I said, just an observation. Not talking about anybody specifically. :D

So what you're saying is that it represents something to you.

If I were to come into your bedroom and turn it rightside up, that would offend you in some way, because it would then say something counter to what you believe.

Right?

nope, since what it represents is purely subjective. although I would ask what you were doing in my room.

In the US an upside down flag is supposed to be a distress signal. How it became a symbol of protest or art I don't know.

if you live in America (illegal or not), and you're not homeless, you pay ALL KINDS of taxes. I don't know why people get hung up on the income tax.
I get hung up on the income tax because I HATE having to pay it and it makes me mad that a lot of people, not just illegal immigrants, get away with not paying it.
In other words, envy!

We wouldn't have any GOOD Mexican restaurants anymore.
You do realize that not many mexican restaurants are owned by illegals, right? To file taxes and get a business license .. they have to file taxes .. which means .. they either have a TIN or are legal. Either way .. so long as they pay taxes .. it's cool by me .. otherwise .. they should GTFO.
