What I think needs to be done about oversized trucks and SUV's.

With oil prices as they are now, and the expected forecast of gas prices, you WILL be deciding between gas and other important things.

And I understand this. It's like that now. I've had to decide between gas and other things before, but if somebody wants to lose all their money on gas, let them. I mean, personaly, I could care less. It's my mom's SUV, I just drive it. Me personally? I want one of the 90's Mustangs. They can support trailer hitches, and are nice cars. But I drive what I have to.

I mean, c'mon, look at this Mustang, who WOULDN'T want it?!

But why keep them around until the market changes? The public might not want to buy hybrids.

There is actually a reason for that. If the government comes down and regulates what everybody is going to drive, auto manufactures are going to build them to the cheapest standard possible, and simply push them off because we'll have no choice but to buy them.

If you let them compete, newer, better, more efficient models will hit the market. They'll kill eachother year after year with one upmanship on better vehicles. (Exactly the same reason we're not all driving Model T Fords today)

This drives further technology development wich can be used in any one of millions of spin off applications. Space, medicine, travel, environmental science, etc... The list is endless.
