Actually .. Southern Baptist don't do that .. they pray and ask for forgiveness if they feel they were out of line .. but that's about it. It's not required though.

Confession is where you tell God about your sins and seek/expect some sort of punishment in order to rectify your wrongs.

Baptists dont' believe that God punishs you though, which is why I am not catholic .. I don't believe that.

My point....Ahem was that confession is age old, it is not just a function of the catholic church.

Confessing our shortcomings is not just a Catholic concept. It is widely used and accepted by many faiths.

I've been 100% able to keep religion out of both of the science debates. Not 99.99%. 100%.

I only ask legitimate questions that I feel deserve an answer before theories can be considered credible. Why is that so hard to accept?

Being humble enough to accept your shortcomings I think is something that is a mark of any mature person, regardless of whether the're religious or not. To me, admitting it to the people you've wronged is more important than admitting it to God or some Priest.

I can understand the role of a priest in confession, but if god knows all and you're genuinely sorry for what you did I don't see how they can still logically carry confessions out/make them necessary.

I can see the purpose of another person being involved, for purpose of humility, but I don't think it should matter if it's a man of the "cloth".

They say admitting it is the first step right? Well, I think this is the Biblical principal called "confession."

I can't think of anywhere in the Bible is specifies that confession must be made to a priest. Possibly in the extra books in the Catholic Bible??
