Here's the deal. For religious & spiritual folks it will be interesting to see the answers to this question. For atheists and all others, just play devil's advocate with this in presuming there is a higher power.

What I would like to hear from our members is this:

If you could choose between a God who has a set of rules that must be adhered to where some are "saved" based on following those rules OR a God who has no rules or constraints and everyone is "saved" yet it means that those you consider vile and "sinners" are also invited into heaven with you, which God would you choose if you knew that the first God meant that the majority of human-kind would have to either burn in hell or be destroyed forever?

I would like a god who lets people live their lives without having a set of rules in place to wreak revenge on them when they die. Oh, and one that isn't so secretive/absent.

you have a choice be a good person to the best of your abilities or be like hitler.polpot, mugabe etc.

i know that there are people who i have loved and are the best ever, who i will meet in heaven...a difficult one as im with the faith..but these people never had the chance to learn and come to faith but did live as my "home boy " would have it.

however if you are given the choice then listen and dont judge or argue

i cant decide which god i would want god is just god...but does what is right;)

Which parent will raise better kids?

The set who gives their kid everything they want with no such thing as consequences, or the set who sets down rules and guidelines and nurtures a stronger, more well rounded individual?

I'm happy with The One we have. :D

I can agree with that kind of god, but why such a harsh punishment in the end? Instead of eternal hellfire, why not just let people who didn't believe just die and not experience heaven? I mean, if your kid doesn't follow what you say to the "T" for his/her whole life, are you going to bring them out back and shoot them for doing so?

I happen to believe in a God who has rules - but my God ALSO gives you as many chances (lives) to figure those rules out and live by them as you need. You don't abandon a child - throw them out of your house forever - just because they didn't make it all the way thru the 1st grade. You get a tutor - you have them repeat the grade - but you don't just throw them away.

Of course I'm not going to drag him out back and shoot him. (Though I may lead him to believe it could happen :p ) But my God doesn't drag us out back and shoot us either.

I believe we eternal beings with two possible destinations. God invites us to join Him. It is our choice to not do so.

You and I have always had this fundamental difference of opinion regarding punishment vs. consequence.

I don't think everything bad that happens in life is because the Creator is punishing us.

God created hell by creating satan, and allows eternal torture to go on...even though he is all loving? That is not love. A parent wouldn't let his child die in a burning house just because they didn't obey them. He invites us to join him, in eternal happiness, but if we choose otherwise, he allows us to slip into excruciating pain for the rest of our days, thats not even a choice. Thats a fucking threat.

See, if god was real, and if god was all loving, he would simply let the people who didn't believe in him die, and thats it (like it is already) and not have them be tortured (something he could easily stop, but chooses not to), and let the ones who did follow him into heaven. Simple enough. Hey look, I'm more fair, understanding and loving than gawd!

Actually he let's you choose that for yourself .. you know the consequence of following satan .. and if you choose to follow him and his ways .. you get to go live with him when you die.

and an all loving god, who knows you are in extreme agony for all of eternity, lets it happen because he is petty. BUT HE LOVES YOU!

Personally, I find the concept of the wisest being ever to exist wanting praise to be directed towards him is silly to the max.
