I have things to be proud of, just not what this world is today. It's not that I choose to be negative, more of a fact that the world just is that way, it has severe problems, more than the average person knows. I feel lucky to have what I have, but more unlucky that some person in a third world country is thinking of people in my country thinking "Those greedy bastards made us poor", which is the truth. No one should have to live that way, it's not a case of "That's just the way it is", it should be a case of "That's never how it should be". The way we live is destructive, so I don't support anything that wants to support that. It's not negativity, it's just the realisation that the world isn't perfect, and extremely far from it, I mean, incredibly...
And you can't find one single thing anywhere to be proud of??? Not one single thing??? I find that hard to believe...but to each his/her own.

People should be thinking along the lines of global nationality. We are all humans and need the same shit, why fight against each other and be segregated?

The "problem" is that this is not an ideal or a dogma for people to get behind and embrace, it's a realization that we're all pretty much the same and that we all deserve to live freely in this world regardless of nationality, race, class or caste.

The United States does its part..we are made up of foreigners..the arm is always extended.
Many countries are not that way..and will put your life at risk for being a certain race or religion..
If the world wants to to truly get along, then the fucked up cultures need to change...the 14th century is gone.
So if we go back to 14 century will we get along with those that do live 14th century.....not a chance...as it is 14th century thinking that causes it to begin with.
If 14 century gets motivated to the 21st century then we can have that big happy family we speak of.

But to answer the title of the thread, yes I am...and I really couldn't care less WHAT you think about my country since, from the smatterings of postings that I *have* read from you, you seem to be pretty far out of touch w/ reality. Have a great day!!!

Who can be "proud" of their country nowadays? I would merely take pride in knowing that I am doing my best to be a decent human being and take the time to help others when they are in need. No country is right nor is any country wrong in a sense. Though it is our government's job to protect this nation and do right by us...we must take the time to remember that the people in office are merely human like us. We all make mistakes. Should they own up to their mistakes? Of course. Do they always? Not likely, but that is just how the world is these days. When people decide to unite to do something about it then I shall be on the frontlines with the rest. However, until that point in time, the best we can do is focus on matters that we do have control over at the moment. Such as ourselves for example. As always, it is merely my own opinion.

there are no poor counties in the middle east or asia, the people are poor but the rulers live a life of such opulance that most of us will never cimprehend, angelina jolie went to pakistan as part of a campaign to raise money for the flood victims, she was disgusted to be treated to a banquet so lavish it was disgusting

and as for iraq, before the coalition got there a huge convoy of lorries was filmed by spy planes crossing the border from iraq to syria, what were they carrying?...it certainly was't saddams wealth because his palaces were ransacked and that was taken, could some of it at least have been the gas he was using to commit genocide on the kurds?

Perspective for those who like bashing the U.S.: http://www.newsweek.com/2011/01/23/a-dictator-dispatched.html

Perspective on Arab states:

The fall of Ben Ali has accomplished one thing nonetheless: it has exposed the corrupt common denominator of every regime in the Arab world. They are all, in effect, mafia states—entire nations run by families for their own benefit. Whether they call themselves republics or monarchies, whether they are allied to the United States or opposed to it, are on the list of states supporting terrorism or fighting it, have made peace with Israel or not, they are all family businesses. Whether they claim to be secular or follow Sharia or try to chart a course in between, their governance has less in common with the Magna Carta than it does with La Cosa Nostra.

Which of these dictatorships were not at some point supported by the united states?

The article mentions this in passing. It's nothing to be proud of, but it's a fact with many (most?) countries maneuvering to benefit themselves. I think it's a human characteristic. I've never been proud of the U.S. dealing with dictators. Is the U.S. the only guilty party?

You'll note the author of this thread is behind a long string of anti U.S., anti Western subjects, but you'll never hear this person direct his criticism towards home. He's one sided and consequently has no credibility at least as far as I am concerned.

Maldoror, where are you from? Just curious. I'm currently a resident of Texas.

your post 34

Your 'wisdom' is that because the rulers in ME or Pakistan live luxurious lives there are no poor in those places. OMG Plato must be turning in his grave at your smart (or over-smart) conclusion and lauding you IQ!!

America is a world-leader and every one has the right to state his/opinion about what's happening there. Most of the stuff about America is already in the public domain and written by the Americans themselves. You got to believe the truth or wallow in the mud calling in your whims such criticism as anti-America etc........ rather than rebutting it with facts and logic.

Here are more facts you won't be ready to accept!! None of the writer is other than an American or European...though.
America Is No Example Of Democracy

By Timothy V. Gatto

http://www.countercurrents.org/gatto100211.htm

So what gives us the right to interfere in the politics of another nation? The fact of the matter is that when we intervene in any nation’s affairs, it’s for our own interests. This is one reason why the world hates America. Our government should understand this: until we get it right in the United States, we should stay out of the affairs of other nations

How Minorities, Poor, Are Kept Out Of
US Law Schools

By Lawrence Velvel, Michael Coyne & Sherwood Ross

http://www.countercurrents.org/ross100211.htm

If law school enrollment today is made up largely of the white and the wealthy, it is because the American Bar Association, the chief accreditor of the nation’s law schools, has designed the rules that produce this outcome. It’s not that minorities and students from low-income households don’t want to attend law school; it’s that they are being priced out by soaring tuition costs, up 267 percent since 1990, and shut out by the culturally biased Law School Admissions Test
