Nice little rant BB@TW.
'Sorry...lol
1.) Another country? What are you talking about?
2.) Saying that kids don't care is presumptious. i've cared since i was ak id and i know other's did too.
3.) How is your dislikingo f mexicans relevant?
Its the principal of it all. Invoking the name of "God" is praying. Once a federal government endorses religion, AND prayer, it breaks its own rules it set up in the first place. What a bunch of crap...Not that I thik "In God We Trust" needs to be there, but I cannot help but wonder what would happen, if we went to another country and told them "Hey, y'all have to change all this shit.....You're doing it wrong"
Is there not something more productive we could be doing than attacking something written on currency. No child should be MADE to use the word "One nation Under God"
I cannot imagine how traumatic it must be for them.
Basically the kid's don't care, it's just words. It's these wacko parents making the fuss. I am insulted each time I go to a store, and have to speak spanish to check out. But that obviously is intolerant, and I should keep my mouth shut, It's not okay to offend someone who got here last week.
Okay...I'm done now
first off, I don't like the guy. I think he's annoying. But I agree with the fact that it is in fact endorsing religion, which the federal government cannot do. Its in the constitution, in plain black and white. No one had a problem with the pledge the way it originally was:
In its original form it read:"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
In 1923, the words, "the Flag of the United States of America" were added. At this time it read:"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy's daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads:"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
What religion is it endorsing? Surely one can believe in God and not be a member of any religion. Its the principal of it all. Invoking the name of "God" is praying. Once a federal government endorses religion, AND prayer, it breaks its own rules it set up in the first place.
I don't feel offended by it either, I just think its illegal.Well, I do not go to church, nor do I choose to endorse one. I don't find "One Nation Under God" to be offensive.
And just because somebody else does does not make it right. The Supreme court when they open the chamber, they do so with the saying of a prayer. Something that goes un-noticed.
Every courtroom you will go to asks you to place your hand on a bible when you take the stand.
The President is sworn in under oath...With a Bible.
Does it mean we are going to get burned at the stake for not going to church....No.
The Constitutional amendement regarding religion was not worded "freedome FROM religion" and separation of church and state refers to the concept that the signers were trying to save us from a State sponsored CHURCH (remember the church of England?)
I have NEVER felt that anyone, even uncle sam has tried to force anything on me, it's a choice. Should you be forced to say God...No, should you have that choice...Yes.
Elsewise you are the hyprcrite.
They're talking about personal stuff, like no one can stop you from going to church, praying in your own home/property etc etc, and that is a GOOD THING. BUT, once you try to establish religion in the PUBLIC SECTOR, THAT is illegal. The First Amendment also says they can't prohibit the free exercise of religion. So how can they legally stop someone from saying under god?
It doesn't have to be endorsing a single religion. Religion is religion. What religion is it endorsing? Surely one can believe in God and not be a member of any religion.
But taking it out is tantamount to endorsing atheism/agnosticism.It doesn't have to be endorsing a single religion. Religion is religion.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...."And....where does it say the government cannot "endorse"?
They cannot ENFORCE...Big difference AEF
No its not.But taking it out is tantamount to endorsing atheism/agnosticism.
