UK Government wants to block all internet porn, what are your thoughts?

Should all internet porn be blocked?

It's freedom of speech so my vote is no.

But......porn disgusts me. As did the decade of the sexual revolution, and molestors or pedophiles. It's the whole nature of turning sex into business and power and perversion that is so distasteful. But clearly the downfall of morality is something humans must experience. I just steer clear and I watch that my children do too.

Certainly looks like it's headed that way.

It most definitely is.

My prediction: they'll be another couple of false flag attacks on the internet, perhaps a couple of shock situations involving underage people and porn... then the censorship will gain support amongst the brainwashed masses.

Give it a couple of years and OTz will be shut down for harbouring terrorists...

Bravo. It's good to see someone who is able to disconnect their personal feelings on the matter and support basic rights.

There's nothing wrong with being offended by it, and well done for caring about your kids enough to care what they're looking at :)

I really don't think the majority of people will ever go for this

you'd be surprised. these things get brought in so incrementally.

If you went back 50 years and told the British Public that they will be living in the most surveiled country in world by the year 1990, no one would agree. But it was brought in slowly over time...

The world will sleep walk its way into this.

Sound's stupid. porn isn't a new thing.... It's not like kids didn't see it before the internet via stealing porno mags or getting into their parents stash.

It's just freaking porn. It never hurt anybody. It's really embarassing how backwards we are.

I agree, I can think of a lot worse things for a kid than seeing porn.
:homo:

It's not illegal to watch porn. I don't think it would be possible to block it all, there's too much of it out there. What they should focus more on is child porn and stopping that, it hasn't really worked that successfully because there are still people out there watching child porn.
:homo:

Every Briton should oppose this measure, it's not entirely dissimilar to what China do with their internet.
:homo:

Blimey, this is just beyond ridiculous. I mean, beyond ridiculous.

Porn is the least of a child's worries these days. My God, even pre-internet we'd all seen hardcore on VHS by the age of 10 at the latest....

This is just an excuse to make inroads into internet censorship. It's already started with the Wikileaks situation... won't be long until we see the internet much like the oppressed Chinese.
:homo:

No prizes for guessing the one person who voted for in this poll.

I totally would, the world could do without some attention-seeking ho-bags in my opinion. It's one thing to find out you're sexy, but when you know you're sexy and you still act like you need validation, I mean come on, some people just need a slap (not the nice kind either) :)

I think it's so ridiculous, whatever next?

Probably to ban educational sites that show.... *gasp* male and female genitalia. I mean on wikipedia alone, there is a video of a man ejaculating and pictures of sex acts!! Children could stumble on it and then, obviousally, turn into rapists and murderers. :sarcasm

I just hate porn, what can I say? :cool

Hating porn is fine, but should that mean we start allow censorship of the internet? There's no proof that a child watching porn is damaging in any way, and a responsible parent should be using many of the already available parental controls for internet access.

Censorship of the internet is the beginning of the end. If you agree to them censoring porn, what about when a few reactionaries dislike something you use the internet for? Like OTz?

I can see it now: "Forums provide terrorists the opportunity to talk"

That's what this is opening the doors for...

wikipedia is evil. So is the encyclopedia britannica...

I could not agree more! It's up to the parent to actually take responsibility for their children, not the govenment.

When I was 10, me and a load of children stumbled on a very hardcore porn magazine outside school. We turned the pages with a stick while giggling and feeling embarrassed and then went on with our lives and forgot about it (I only remembered it when I saw Zorak's thread on this a few days ago and I was trying to remember when I first saw porn). None of the children who were there ended up damaged from it and I think that is the way most children react when they stumble on porn.

Yeah but you got together with Zorak.... which might suggest some damage was done along the line somewhere... you sure it wasn't because of the porn?
