Funny thing about the three mentioned symptoms for borderline diabetes is they are exactly the same as the ones for the full blown diabetes
IMO those that subscribe to the pre-diabetes thing are just fooling themselves. All it means is a person has elevated sugar levels that will get worse if they don't get a handle on it. Very few people are diagnosed at the beginning of the disease and have been sweet for quite a while therefore their levels are usually well above what the normal is not just a wee little bit over.
The diagnosing of Borderline or even Gestational DM as you've placed them almost on same category which I agree to a point by not going into details of it's pathology--> doesn't depend wholly on one's symptoms as almost all of them present with these symptoms even with the Type I. The only categorizing pre-diagnosing factor would be it's onset and if it can be cured/controlled by insulin or not. A Borderline is existent in even like some disease processes there like HTN or even Hypercholesterolemia ( High Cholesterol) depending on how severe the lab results are or in the case of the DM either FBST ( Fasting Blood sugar test) or series of blood sugar finger sticks. If it's on it's preliminary stage just like with Panacea's then change in diet and exercise will be able to have it controlled. So she has a point to say that she can have it controlled with change in her diet and with exercise alone.
Ok :dunno
I'm not offended by the diagnosis as a concept, I think it's just a preventative measure, I would guess if a person is getting to the point diabetes is in the conversation, they know their lifestyle is bad already so it's up to them any way you phrase it.
:thumbup
Really? I was about 11 years old when I was told by my doctor that I would end being a diabetic and I was probably more active than any 11 year old you ever met. Even though I didn't have a clue what the disease was at the time I remember that conversation as if it took place 5 minutes ago.
Were you diagnosed with Type I or Type II? When were you officially diagnosed? Does DM run in your family?
Given that you're an active kid- there's still a lot of factors that can make an MD say that you'll end up a diabetic depends on maybe even if you're active and DM runs in your family or that what you burn in calories from being active in tantamount to what your caloric intake is. It also epends if your pancreas may not be able to convert insulin or sugars normally hence an MD can say those words mentioned to you.
Thank you!
I was never actually told I was, luckily, she just warned me it could get there if I didn't do something. I haven't ever had to test my blood sugar on my own, just a fasting glucose here and there when they were monitoring my pcos.
Now I understand a lot more clearly where the Borderline diagnosing came about
