Rooney isn't crap, he's just had a disappointing Tournament. To call him crap is all kinds of wrong because to be that he'd have to be at the Emile Heskey level. Anyone who calls Rooney crap is a plastic fan, who only turns up for England in tournaments and doesn't bother with any football in the time between.

As an outsider to English soccer, I can safely state that he played like crap during the World Cup.

as an outsider that sees rooney play quiet a bit for Man Utd i would say he looked tired, and not gettign good service from midfield meant he did more running back to get the ball than he should have to do

That wasn't my point, people are saying he's crap full stop, which isn't true. Yes he's had a crap world cup but he isn't a crap player.

what we need is a good english manager, one that can get the best out of his players, even if they're average.....one thats won all there is to win at home and in europe...one with his own mind who'll pick the players who he wants to pick

ok....brian cloughs dead but there must be one out there somewhere

Seriously, what we need is a bit more realism! England right now is an average side and I really have no idea why anyone thinks that because we invented the game and won it 44 years ago we automatically have a god given right to be the best at it and something is seriously wrong if we arn't!

I'd rather have a good manager regardless of Nationality. Capello's a good boss, he did very well in quaifying, just not at the WC, but his credentials have always been there, remember he's won Series A 6 times, La Liga twice and the Champions League, plus other trophies. So there is no doubting what he's done.

But he didn't do it at the WC, not completely his fault, players didn't perform, sloppy goals were let in.

As I said the other day, the players aren't the same players you see at Club level, Lampard is a much better player at Chelsea, ditto Gerrard, ditto Rooney, ditto....well most of them. The reason is because generally speaking most of them play with better players at Club level.

my problem is some of capellos selections.....we needed goals so he put heskey on,and no disrespect here but he took green and upson,a keeper and center half who play for a club who finished 4th from bottom.....now he's saying that 30 year old bobby zamora is one for the future

Green made one mistake, funny how everyone is suddenly calling for his head and hailing a 39 year old keeper with dozens of terrible blunders as what should be our first choice keeper. Knee jerking, much?

i'm not calling for his head, every player makes mistakes only keepers are punished harder.....i'd have gone with hart anyway...but i wouldn't have taken upson or king for that matter...i'd have taken dawson and birminghams scott dann.....danns had a storming season only to be over-looked......and i'd seriously start looking at dan fox of burnley as cover for ashley cole, burnley for now anyway...we really need a big injection of youth

Keiran Gibbs is a much better option than anyone at this time, in terms of understudy.

Smalling, Rodwell, Hart, Adam Johnson, Walcott, Agbonlahor are some of the players who should be staking their claims now.

They really aren't, plus he plays for Burnley, which by your logic

but he took green and upson,a keeper and center half who play for a club who finished 4th from bottom

means you shouldn't be considering him, Burnley went down remember.

They have to be playing at the top level for a start, that applies everywhere.

The reason, generally speaking, is that the players they will come up against at these Tournaments will be at the top level, heck even the South American teams have the majority of their players plying their trade in Europe. Yes playing in the lower leagues might toughen them up a bit but that will do them no good when David Villa or Lionel Messi rapes them.

ok......these few highlight a point....not modern day i know but even then there were gifted players

alan ball.....blackpool in 66

roger milla...retired

Schilaci(top scorer in italia 90).....serie B

schweinsteiger.....never plays

to me a player proves himself to be international class by playing internationals...and where i agree with the playing in the top flight argument there are sometimes exceptions to the rule....and dont forget that if the premiership wasn't flooded with average foreign players alot of the championship players would be in the premiership

Joe Hart is clearly one for the future but at this point, you would have put in a keeper who is completely inexperienced at International level? Something tells me he would have fucked up more that Green. Dont forget, it's pretty obvious that right now, goalkeeping is Englands weakest point, there really isn't some Gordon Banks to jump in and save us right now.

he joined burnley in the transfer window.....they were already in the mire

And who are Green and Upson being linked with right now and been drawing attention from since before Christmas?
