I watched the game. Other than the disallowed goal, looked like England did a find job of fucking it up for themselves

i watched and felt that England suffered like italy did, they seemed to be nervous and scared of losing

not cohesive at all, germany were ruthlessly effiicent, i expect if germany can play that way they will win the whole thing

Stop making broadstroke generalizations about all of us being fat, stupid, lazy, or not able to understand a simple game like soccer/football. Until you've been here, met a vast majority in person (not online), stop with the generalizing or categorizing because you really don't know and you end up alienating the vast majority of us who do "get it."

did you even watch the game?.....if you did you'd have seen a ref whos screwed america over a couple in the past right royaly fucking it up......but then being english we get used to bad refereeing

Because he didn't allow the one goal? Sorry, but you guys still would've lost by two even if that one would've counted. I'm not disagreeing that it wasn't a goal, because it was, but the fact is that you all didn't play very well at all. Germany was simply better.

now to the germany game.....i'm sure most of the europeans on here will agree with what i'm going to explain,the football following ones anyway

germany's first goal,it was a freak.....you probably wont see another like it in top class football for a few years

the second goal....rank bad marking but a great finish

now then,england pulled a goal back,minutes later lampards shot hit the bar and went a yard over the line,it was one of the best finishes of the tournament...only the ref and his assistant went blind for a second and never saw it...now heres the crux....teams fail or succeed on such things.....if that goal had counted england were on the ascendency,we were the team on the up.....as it was we went into half time 2 - 1 down.....meaning that the longer we went in the second half without scoring the more risks we had to take....germany capitalised on this and hit us on the break twice..thing is..if it had been 2 - 2 the england side could have played a more controlled game......so it was an important decision which might just have changed the eventual outcome.

The first goal was down to bad defending, sorry, no two ways about it. How can two (allegedly) very good Centre Halves allow that ball to travel that far, bounce, and then a striker to get in between the two of them to score? Should never happen.

I think the biggest problem is now the old orthodox 442 formation is outdated, or at least England's style is too inflexible to account for it.

Look around the top teams, Chelsea play 4-4-2 BUT they have Essien, Mikel and Lampard as the Centre Midfielders with Malouda roaming, and Drogba and Anelka up front. Arsenal have 4-3-3, and have done so for a while, we play 4-4-2 sometimes but again it's a flexible thing, and other times we play 4-3-3. And it's well known Barcelona play that way.

Until England truly learn to embrace the very nature of flexibility it will never happen.

Have to wonder where England will go from here.

It's obvious to me something is rotten with English football, and it's not the manager or coaching staff, because a number of quality managers have come and gone through the England post. And Capello is without doubt the best of all of them yet.

I think football at grassroots has to be restructured, and coaches have to be retrained. Because what kids are being taught now is not technical ability. I find it deeply worrying that int the England team, only Lampard was prepared to take shots with his weeker foot. I find it even more worrying that 90% of the players seem to lack the simplest of footballing skills: ball contol.

Beckenbaur called us a kick and rush team, frankly, I think that's doing us too much of a service, it implies that there is movement up front.

That's why I think that US Soccer is really on the rise. We're finding good domestic players and bringing them up through MLS, letting them transfer to some of the bigger clubs overseas, and then bringing them back for them to bring a higher talent level to our top league here. We didn't perform quite as well as I would've hoped, but I saw some really good talent during the cup... especially from guys like Feilhaber, Bradley, and Jozy.

I also liked the line adaptation in the second half of the Ghana game... really put them on their heels for a good chunk of the second half. The result obviously wasn't what I was hoping for, but the move to a 4-2-3-1 seemed to work well against the Ghanaian defense. But I think that mostly worked because Feilhaber is a really creative midfielder and was able to make a lot of things happen.

My arguement against that would be that Germany don't have a Messi or Kaka, and they seemed fine without, they have 11 players who are technically good and play at a high level.
Sweinsteiger (sp?) controlled the play and was comfortable on the ball in a way that no English player has been since Bobby Charlton.


Edit: Also, another question, why all of a sudden is Rooney crap? He's got a lot of stick this tournament, and maybe he didn't play as well as he can, but he had that deftness of touch and control that was obviously superior to all around him.
