There is absolutely a natural tendency to associate with that which you are familiar. Take large cites as an example. Here in NYC you will find entire sections of the city dedicated to different ethnic groups.

People segregate for reasons of security, unity and unification against the majority or other competitive racial groups. Other purposes could be--business, religion, customs, food, style of living, language, worship places, habits, culture, etc.
Long ago ,I remember going to a place in NYC where I went to buy cheaper suit cases etc was replete with Jewish community. At another place, Jackson Heights, I found almost all Sikhs running shops and selling at very cheap prices. Similarly there are China Towns and other settlements.....Even in Missisuaga Canada one can find huge concentrations of Indo-Pakistani's..

You do realize that there are still many places in the US that are very racist, right? What do you think will happen if the federal government declares that anyone with a public venue such as restaurants can now exclude anyone for any reason, including someone who is black?
You will find groups of people in small towns finding themselves without any services. They would need to pull up and move to a "colored" friendly town just to live.

Association is inclusive. Segregation is exclusive. Do you think they go hand in hand?
This reminds me of some negotiations with the local health department several years ago. They said we had to have certain regulations and if they did not work as intended they could always be rescinded.
No friggin way do most laws/regulations get rescinded.

I live in Klan country. Trust me I know what I am talking about. And think about this, I only live 90 minutes from Philly and 90 minutes from NYC. Just think what it would be like in small towns in the south. I have been there and it's as close to segregated as possible in some areas.
There are small redneck towns where there is only a small percentage of blacks. If allowed, they would absolutely close their restaurants to the local blacks. Along with every other privately owned business.
I don't see this being a problem in larger towns and cities, so maybe you just don't see it. I have... first hand.
Hell, I COULD NOT put up an Obama sign in my front lawn last election. My house would not be standing today.

Had no clue when I bought the house. Plus the fact that I'm out in the middle of the woods with no real neighbors, so I don't associate with anyone here.
So because the Klan is active in my neck of the woods it's a dangerous place? Hell, the crime rate in my area is extremely low because the people are spread out and not right on top of each other.
My house is very well defended/protected.

People tend to gravitate towards what they know and feel comfortable with. It's not necessarily a racist thing.
lol, why would you say that? Only a small minority of people would associate with racists let alone the klan. Just because they are in the area does not make the area racist.
You really don't understand racism in this country, do you? What type of area do you live in, demographically speaking? Do you get to see or experience racism?
Only time can cure the existing hates that races have towards each other...the more we mention it the more we rub salt in the wounds thus always keeping the irritation....In other words simple discussion only strengthens the separation that exists.
In general I dont see a problem existing at a large level..although I am sure that there are neighborhoods that have issues.
A certain level of hate will still exist even if race hate was stamped out...Some people are just happy with hate.
