The World Cup Thread

nobody wants the US to win because it's not "our sport"
so instead getting a 'well played', we get 'you're lucky we just happened to suck tonight'

but thats ok, when you're the best in the world for so long, you get used to the haters

To be honest, I didn't know about that part of the offside rule, especially from corners. I thought that whoever was the last man would be acting like the keeper if the keeper had strayed forward.

The problem is that FIFA, is that they keep changing the rules, in the previous world cup, if you were more advanced than the last defender, that meant the player who received the ball is offside, now if the player was in front of the goalie, regardless if there is another player or not, then the player who receives the ball is offside now

Very annoying to me, had I heard that they had changed it, I would of been wiser:ninja

I don't think that's true. It's the World Cup! People want their own teams to do well and win! But, anything can happen.

If you watched that game yesterday, it was pretty much all England and we looked like we were playing with our feet up our asses; particularly in the first half. I noticed during the national anthems that with the exception of Dempsey our boys looked like they were going to puke up their lunches. While Tim Howard was brilliant and really was the one that kept us in it (that's our keeper in case you weren't watching) and yes, Altidore hit the post in the second half which had it gone in could have put us up 2-1, England was really the better team yesterday.

We equalized on a dumb luck gift delivered on a silver platter. As they often say in hockey, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good...and again, aside from Mr. Howard and a bright spot here and there, that's really what we were...lucky.

Now my hope is that they take some of that luck, turn it into momentum, settle their bummies down and play hard against Slovenia...who happens to be top of our group...the horror. Especially now that Howard might be out with some broken ribs. :p

PS: Despite the fact that I jumped off of my barstool when that ball trickled in, there was a part of me that felt incredibly bad for Robby Green. Kudos to him for not completely losing his composure and for not crawling under a rock and hiding, but coming right out and getting ahead of it.

Yeah, I'm not much of a smack talker...unless it's hockey and we're playing the Flyers. I hate the f*%$ing Flyers!!!

Me thinks you underestimate exactly how many people in the US actually like Footie my dear!

If the tables were turned and it was a sport you cared about I doubt you would be saying that!

Sooooooo who is the hater :p
