Ok before I wade in I want to agree with the consensus that such treatment of women is beyond barbaric. And it does appear to be a cornerstone of fundamentalist Islamic beliefs.

HOWEVER, this video does contain some outright lies, lies, one would assume, that are their to simply create more hatred and bolster support for our oil wars.

Firstly, the age of marriage in Iran is 13, not 9, as the video claims.
http://www.ageofconsent.com/iran.htm

Secondly, there is no global war against Islamic Jihad. And Islamic Jihad isn't a war against the world either. Islamic Jihad is a local concern for countries with a muslim majority. The purpose of the Islamic Jihad is to impose Islamic states in countries with a muslim majority. This is to counter the alleged "corruption" induced on citizens under a liberal, western societal framework. The Islamic Jihad started in Egypt, as a result of the perceived negative effects of influence from the west via Egypt's "open door" policy, which whilst creating a Middle Class in the country, also brought about an increase in poverty for the poorer sections of society and lead to a more consumerist, and in the eyes of the Qur'an, a more shallow and superficial society. The battle against the west is generally not supported by the Islamic Jihad, bar a few members of a splinter group we know in the west as "Al Qaeda"

It's also worth saying that the effect of this video is simple: hate muslims. This is a dangerous way to get extra support for a war that is simply about oil and opium.

It's also worth saying that much progress is being made in countries like Egypt. The population of Egypt, much like Iraq prior to our invasion, do not agree with the principle of an Islamic State. And the women in these countries are making headway, though in the case of Iraq, our meddling and occupation has actually set back the progress. Under Saddam's rule, women were a common sight in the workplace, but thanks to the west descending the country into chaos, they are now worse off, much like many of the women in countries like Iran. Who knows the affect our Afghani war is having right now.

As I said, any treatment of any human being like this, male or female is wrong and beyond disgusting. But this video serves a very dangerous purpose.

It's certainly worth looking into the videos source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Horowitz

It's not like he's not known for twisting the truth to suit his far-right agenda.

According to other websites I've read, the age of consent in Iran is simply that you must be married.

I'm also pretty certain that they weren't talking about "Islamic Jihad" the terroristic organization as it sounded like you were saying they were. I think it was a generic statement that encompasses the jihads that different muslim organizations and groups have declared against the "west". I don't think that you can classify the "lies" as being there to simply create hatred or anything else. You're being rather sensationalistic by claiming that. I didn't see the video as trying to bring hatred against the Islamic faith, but rather to open people eyes to the atrocities that women are subjected to.

This is a better analysis of the situation, however, the concept of Jihad is not yet clear to the West.
Jihad or Muslim holy war has never taken place after the Crusades....so those who call this war of terror as Jihad are damn fools!!

You will also not from your writing how much Muslims are split into different sects and nowhere you can find uniformity of Islamic concept in Muslim states. The tussle between the Arabs and the US and its allies is over Israel - the Palestinian issue, and the so called Al Quaida of which even i haven't seen anything of in Pakistan is just a hoax...As far as the Talibans are concerned they are Wahabi's influenced by Saudi doctrine ,,,,Iran is a Shia state,,,Pakistan a Sunni , so you can see the countless variations which have split the Islamic world apart. Consequently what happens in one Muslim country doesn't necessarily apply to others
in so far as religious interpretations or practices are concerned. However, the one and the only factor which binds Muslims in unity is the Quran...there is no controversy over it among all the Muslim sects and it continues to be unaltered through out the world and is recited in Arabic only.....The Quran also being the most recited book in the world!!

This is true, there is no age of consent, the claim in video was the age of marriage, which was what I refuted, neither of us mentioned consent.

I'm being nowhere near as sensationalistic as this video, Retro. The video is clearly targeting the main area that the US is looking to invade next - Iran. If they're so concerned about women's rights, why aren't they talking about Yemen, or somewhere like that as well? If they're so concerned with women's rights, why did they remove Saddam Hussein, who was clearly in favour of women's rights and keeping the Qur'an out of the government? Why focus on Iran, where, like in many muslim countries, progress is actually being made without the need for war?

The opening statement about the (nonexistent) war against Islamic Jihad in the video was pretty clear to me. I don't understand your problem with my claims.

And as I said, it's only the splinter cell of Islamic Jihad we know as "Al Qaeda" that has international aspirations. Most of the muslims involved in the Jihad do not agree with this and are only concerned about their own countries.

You do realize that the video talked about more places than Iran, right? Or did you watch it all. Somalia, Pakistan, and some others were mentioned as well. Hell, it even talked about a case in Cleveland for crying out loud.

It isn't a war against the Islamic Jihad organization... it's a generalized term. Is that concept really so difficult to understand? It seemed pretty cut and dry to me. But seeing as how you're the one that doesn't believe Al Qaeda exists, or ever existed, I guess I can understand why you focused in on that one thing.

in that case I am atleast being impartial....unlike you who won't stop gloating and bloating about the superiority of your culture...
As I said earlier, One man's meat is another's poison, why your clit brain doesn't want to understand??:yuk

Don't bother responding to this, as I've learned to stay out of this sub-forum, so I won't see it.

First- I'm "gloating and bloating" :wtf:.....?
OK... ignoring the insinuation that I'm gaining weight due to being on my period...

About the "gloating" part of that- why YES, I am "gloating" over the fact that my culture does not see fit to hold a young girl down and take an unsterilized pair of scissors to her clitoris. If being disgusted by that equates in your mind to me feeling like my culture is "superior", then so be it.

Second... let me quote this: "One man's meat is another's poison, why your clit brain doesn't want to understand??"

There is sooooo much here. How do you consider vaginal mutilation, stoning, and rape as "meat"?

Also... I'm thinking that this quote: "... why your clit brain..." is telling. Maybe this entire discussion is a waste of time as you clearly don't know what a clitoris is or it's purpose. Perhaps this is for the best, all things considered.

Yes of course I know other countries were mentioned but clearly if you look at how much of the video centered around Iran, it would far outweigh the other countries.

It claims we're fighting a war against the Islamic Jihad. Which is an outright lie. There is no war against the Islamic Jihad.

Al Qaeda, in the form as we've been lead to believe, doesn't exist. If you were to watch that video I posted some time ago, or read some of http://www.corbettreport.com/ and look into it, you'll see this is true. Also, ask yourself why there haven't been any prosecutions against the supposed hundreds of captured Al Qaeda operatives. Or indeed the complete lack of terrorist attacks from Al Qaeda since 9/11.

You called me a brather so I am not going to be tough with you:)

clit brain is used here to refer to tiny brain....haven't seen a clit before??

All you attribute to Muslims is your self-created perception from hither thither,,,as a Muslim I haven't seen anyone stoned or a rapist not punished or a clit chopped off!! You are merely trying to mix up cultural nuances and practices with a great religion!! I recommend you to re-read the Bible especailly the OT , Torah, Talmus and Gita for enlightenment!

Have a nice Friday night!!

The video clearly was siding with the West, as if to say *cue melodramatic old lady voice* "Ohhhh we must do something to stop them!".

Enough of the whole "Oh but we in the West have our heads on straight". You know, they probably think we're a bunch of losers and arseholes and they think themselves are the ones with their heads on straight. Just think about that, don't you get it?

OK... so I stopped back in to see what you said. So sue me.

My apologies for not equating "clit" with "tiny". I have not previously encountered the use of the word "clit" as an adjective. Well, I wish you a testicle day.

The fact that you can call the mutilation of a young girl in the name of God a "cultural nuance" is incredibly disturbing. Unlike male circumcision (which I personally consider a completely useless and archaic practice even though I have one of my very own) the practice of female circumcision has ONE purpose- to make sex less enjoyable. "Cultural nuance"???

As far as re-reading my Bible, I'm more along the lines of the Tao Te Ching, the Dhammapada or the Book of the Dead, but thanks for the advice.

Thanks for you testicular wishing, Dick has just risen and enjoying the sun!

Female genital mutilation is unheard of in Pakistan...if some people do it must be their custom only, having nothing to do with Islam.

A living person relying on the book of dead for learning to breathe freely is surprising in itself!! Buddha was born in my country and you are looking for him in some pussy-land???Amazing!!:24:
