Ah yes, anarchy. I have yet to meet an anarchist who REALLY thought about what a horrible life it would be to live in such a complete mess.
 
Maybe this all needs to be put into perspective.

while 12 innocent people lost their lives in a single shooting, 85 people lost their lives on America's roads. And here's the kicker, 85 people lose their lives on American roads EVERY DAY.

So while this tragedy was horrific and made the front page of every news organization, what about the 85 who died in traffic accidents and the 85 tomorrow and the next day...?

An excellent point. Mass shootings are relatively rare ... so is it a problem that sprang up out of nowhere or is it a result of an ever increasing population? Are we simply doomed to future instances that increase as our population increases?

I think mental illness is present in any size group, but as the group grows larger you hear about more instances even though the percentage is still the same.

Just the nature of the numbers game.



You can apply this to the auto deaths as well...

A small town of 1,000 people having 85 deaths per day on the roads would be horrendous. But spread that over 350,000,000 people and it really isn't that bad.

Very true and this would definitely need to be taken into consideration as a law maker.
 
I have always said that laws are in place to keep the lawful in line. IF criminals were bothered by laws, they wouldn't be criminals.

We could argue all day long about the death penalty being a deterrent. I don't think you can argue that if a piece of shit low level nobody tried to mug you and got the air let out of him, the next guy might think a little harder about it.

I will don the flame retardant clothing and patiently await the anti gun flamethrowers...

I think they are there for both. At the root they have purpose in prevention, but honestly, how many people REALLY study local AND federal laws? How well do you really understand the moral scrutiny you're being held accountable for?

Most would admit they don't. I know people joke about "man if murder were legal for just one day I would..." really? I think when it comes down to brass tacks there are varying degrees of moral compass at work, laws fill the gaps.

Make any sense?

Absolutely.

It really shows how deeply difficult it is to administrate law and how much gray area there is in making such decisions.
