Yup. First thing in the morning at 7:00am...and I get off at 6:00am. :tooth

When I'm on nights I literally don't see any of my co-workers. Ever. Day shift is 7:00am to 5:00pm. I work 9:00pm to 6:00am. I'm usually left a note when I get to work about things I need to do and/or things that have been going on but there always seem to be little things that people forget to tell me. Sometimes they tell me when they move horses, sometimes they don't. Most of the time I can figure it out because I know how many horses are in each paddock or pasture so if I'm missing a horse in one place and I come up with an extra somewhere else then I know. But yeah...it would be nice to be told because it can be hard to tell in the dark. Communication between me and the day crew isn't horrible but it could be better.

I'd be freaking out if I couldn't find horses in my charge... especially if it was during my shift. You'd be held responsible if they got out, stolen, injured right?

Leave them a note saying: "Hey if you move an animal from where I expect it, leave a note here to tell me so I don't spend hours looking for them. M'kay? thanks in advance."

This is the first year we've had cameras for foaling. They installed them all over the farm last summer. I absolutely love them for watching pregnant mares. A lot of mares like to be private and won't show signs of labour if you're there. With the cameras you can be out of their way and they can do their thing with out feeling threatened. Two of the mares I've foaled this year I probably would have missed if not for the cameras. So in that respect, I really like them. What I DON'T like is when the owners use them to watch the employees. I HATE being watched. And it's not just live camera. It records too so you can rewind and watch stuff if you want. paranoid.png

No more taking a leak/dump in the stall I guess huh?

:24: :24: :24: Oh man...last year when we had that orphan foal they had vet students come work the evenings between the day crew getting off and me starting the night shift because she needed to be monitored 24/7. There's no bathroom down in the mare barn where she was. I came to work one night and was talking with the vet student that was working that evening and at one point she mentioned the lack of a bathroom and that she had just gone in one of the empty stalls. I looked at her and said "You know there are cameras, right??" and she said, "Yeah...I hope no one was watching." I was all "Okaaaaaaaaaay". blink.png

Who? The vet students? Well, Annie had to be fed every hour and then they picked stalls and took care of the other horses in the mare barn. One of them got to foal a mare because she foaled about 15 minutes before I got there.

I have hay in my pants. /itchy

How did this happen? :ninja

I read a Jilly Cooper book once, all about posh people riding horses in competitions and having sex with each other, and after one love scene in a stable the man took a handful of hay and wiped the girl down with it. Now perhaps my understanding of hay is limited, but I was under the impression that it's not exactly like a silk handkerchief to the loins.

If anyone ever tried to wipe me down with hay I'd probably punch them in the face. Not kind. :willy_nilly:

I tend to get hay down my shirt a lot when I feed the horses. Sometimes it migrates to my pants. :ninja It's worse when it's windy. Hay everywhere.

I have a dirty glass with some water in it sitting in my sink. There's a drowned ant floating in it. Serves it right. :mad Stupid ants. Trying to take over my apartment. :mad
