no see a burnt out student drawing sketches for 4 or 6 years and then doing nothing with it afterward is basically an average art major. Why should anyone pay for these people?

And no, cultural diversity is an incredible weakness for any country. It dilutes the native culture and strips away their identity to the point of where they have no concrete cultural basis as a people.

Yeah, we do live in a society, and I shouldn't have to be forced to pay for other people's lives. Think about how that sounds. We can work together and support each other by not having to go on each other's dime and be a burden. Of course reality is inherently communal. What people do or don't do, say or don't say affects you either directly or indirectly. However, this is not an excuse to make others pay for all of your shit. Have some self reliance and willpower for god's sakes.

Actually people in Europe only live about 4 to 5 years longer than Americans. I'm not impressed.

the art majors I knew in London: 1 became an opera director, her operas were amazing, another curated a small but vital museum. VERY valuable to society.

Cultural diversity is unbelievably important. National identity is bullshit, it leads to stagnation of culture, and creates imaginary divisions between peoples. This in turn creates animosity, hatreds, distrust, racism to name but a few delightful side effects. It makes it easier to hate other cultures through ignorance. Ignorance is nothing to be proud of. And neither is some fictitious national identity.

Also, diluting a native culture? LOL! It keeps native cultures going!

That attitude is wrong. You're not "paying for someone else" you're paying into a system that everyone benefits from. If you choose not to benefit from it, more fool you. Go out and enjoy the culture. It's there. I guess it's something we find much more important in Europe. It enriches life. Keeps people away from the fucking telly and stupid consumer lifestyles. It helps understand who we are as a people, and when I say "we", I'm talking about the human race.

Funny, we did all of this without any sort of socialist education system. You should be thanking us.

Truth is, fewer people should be going to college. Only those with a certain skill set and Intelligence level should be permitted. Others can do vocational activities.

Imagine how much further you could have come with the "socialist" system though? Think how many amazing scientists you have that just cannot afford to study?

And don't forget to thank Blighty, and Europe, and it's "socialised" education system, we've contributed so much to science and technology thanks to our previously free educational system that's got some of the finest universities in the world.

Ah yes, the Modern view of multi culti. You're willing to completely leave your own culture by the wayside in order to please foreign populations. The world would just be so much better if everyone just forgot where they came from and join arms in a bongo circle.

That is not how it works in reality

Different groups do not get along often because each culture has different goals, values, morals, political/economic systems, customs, languages and so on. Cramming a bunch of different people into one, small space will create tension.

It comes down to a simple equation: Diversity + proximity = conflict.

Multiculturalism does not work. Once you have many conflicting ideas on what is best for a single people it is mostly downhill from there since there is no clear goal to work towards. Even a mostly Liberal Europe is waking up to this fact. The Chancellor of Germany even said that multiculturalism is a giant failure. That is saying a lot.

You have already fell into the trap of hating who you are, where you come from and who your people are. its nice to think that we're all one, big and happy family where everyone is our brother and sister, but, Oops! a few of those brothers want to saw your head off or topple your country. Man, I guess that doesn't work out, huh?

I also suggest that you open a history book. Cultural cohesiveness does not create stagnation. It creates common goals, laws, identity and rules that people can agree on through commonality, family and tradition. Multiculturalism divides these things by introducing foreign elements that only create more problems, more conflict and more indecisiveness. These divisions are not imaginary. They exist naturally.

Hatred, racism and distrust come from forced multiculturalism. Not the other way around. I feel bad for people who hate their land and their country and the people around them. They totally dismiss their history and people in order to look fashionable and agreeable. In the modern age, apperances are more important than reality, it seems.

No, see, I am paying for someone else if my money goes towards a system that does pay for others. I don't feel like paying for some spoiled 20-something to get a useless degree.

Oh fucking please.
Don't give me that. Europeans are not far off from America in A LOT of ways. You can't tell me that Europe does not have a materialist culture. I've been there. I know people from there personally. It may not be as big as American materialism or consumerism, but it is pretty damn vibrant.

You wanting to "understand who we are as a people (human beings)" is a nice, vogue, modern gesture but it is totally diluted since you refuse to believe that people have different identities.

How far we could have went in a socialist system? Gee, I don't know, why not ask your crumbling European Union that is going to have to bail out Ireland and YOUR country next? European Socialism is slowly eroding. That is why there are these violent student protests now. You guys are so used to sucking off the nanny state teet that you are not used to having to pay for things yourselves.

Bongo circle?

Why would I shove my own culture by the wayside? I never said anything of the sort.

It's all about understanding and appreciating all cultures. Not just focussing on your own. Jesus, the US could do with a bit of variety. If it's one thing you guys lack, it's culture. You should be welcoming all culture into your country.

Different groups do not get along often because each culture has different goals, values, morals, political/economic systems, customs, languages and so on. Cramming a bunch of different people into one, small space will create tension.

No, different groups do not get along because of ignorance of other cultures and perceived divisions. It's that simple.

It comes down to a simple equation: Diversity + proximity = conflict.

Nope. Ignorance + fear + hatred = conflict. That simple.

And yet other countries in Europe are embracing it. In my town, for example, we have a lot of Arabic culture as well as the obvious Spanish, British, German, Swedish. And it's all celebrated and embraced and enjoyed. The Chancellor of Germany is talking out of their arse and trying to blame economic conditions on cultural diversity which is just a crock of shit. When has a politician EVER been known to a) speak the truth and b) be in touch with reality?

You have already fell into the trap of hating who you are, where you come from and who your people are. its nice to think that we're all one, big and happy family where everyone is our brother and sister, but, Oops! a few of those brothers want to saw your head off or topple your country. I don't hate who I am, and I don't hate where I came from. I'm proud of my British roots, and especially about how tolerant Britain is towards other cultures. Something that sadly is changing now because more and more people are becoming culturally bigoted, like yourself.

Look into Nazi propaganda because that's what it sounds like you're spouting right now. Same as the English Defense League. Nazism, pure and simple.

Hatred, racism and distrust come from forced multiculturalism. Not the other way around. I feel bad for people who hate their land and their country and the people around them. They totally dismiss their history and people in order to look fashionable and agreeable. In the modern age, apperances are more important than reality, it seems.

Again, no. Purely from ignorance I'm afraid.

No, see, I am paying for someone else if my money goes towards a system that does pay for others. I don't feel like paying for some spoiled 20-something to get a useless degree.

And other people are paying for things you benefit from too. It's swings and roundabouts.

Oh fucking please. Don't give me that. Europeans are not far off from America in A LOT of ways. You can't tell me that Europe does not have a materialist culture. I've been there. I know people from there personally. It may not be as big as American materialism or consumerism, but it is pretty damn vibrant.

Oh but really we are. Compared to you guys materialism over here is a speck against the planet Jupiter. The UK, ok, I'll give you that, but seriously, countries like Spain are nothing in comparison. Look at the statistics on the garbage situation. The US produces more garbage than every single country in Europe combined!

I still think Europe could do with a little less materialism, but trust me, we're a looooong way behind you guys. A long way.

You wanting to "understand who we are as a people (human beings)" is a nice, vogue, modern gesture but it is totally diluted since you refuse to believe that people have different identities.

I don't believe we don't have different identities. I'm aware that different countries, different cultures hold different value sets, and produce different cultural aspects. The key is to explore them. And that should be encouraged. Divisions shouldn't be based on some stupid notion of "my country". We should embrace our cultures, and not rigidly defend our own. And certainly not under the pretense of our own "national" identity.

Cultures can be integrated without being destroyed you know. Britain is a good example of this. More languages are spoken in London, for example, than anywhere else in the world. The cultures live side by side with few racial tensions. It's a melting pot that has become Britain's "national identity".

How far we could have went in a socialist system? Gee, I don't know, why not ask your crumbling European Union that is going to have to bail out Ireland and YOUR country next? European Socialism is slowly eroding. That is why there are these violent student protests now. The bailouts have come because of your reckless country. So thanks for that, we were doing fine before you unleashed the stupid fucks in Wall St on the world.

European Socialism isn't eroding because it doesn't exist. We're not socialist. Europe is capitalist. We just have a few more social programmes than you.

And we pay for ourselves, we just like to help each other out. We believe in community.

And the "nanny state" is a crock of shit. We don't have the same distance between the people the government as you. The state is us.

Again, no. Purely from ignorance I'm afraid.

Especially racism. You get brought up the wrong way believing "all blacks belong in the trees" then that's a fault of the way you were brought up. Course it's your responsibility to figure out this isn't true either.

Lol, the English defense league has lesbian, African, female and Jewish branches. If they're Nazis I am the god damn pope.

Um, your identity is culture, customs, moral/ethics and beliefs. You're contradicting yourself everywhere. but you see, if you do not defend your own culture it will become dilapidated. It needs to be preserved and strengthened by its native inhabitants because they are the original source of that culture. If you spend your time "embracing" other cultures the native one will suffer.

Oh please. You have this wild "Blame it on America!" attitude. The EU doing terribly is their own fault. Ireland is a GREAT example of a once prosperous country undoing itself with its own politicians. Europe includes multiple socialist policies into their mixed economies. Some more than others, but at the end of the day they are mostly welfare states that use socialist mindsets to run things.

I'm sure you do believe in community, just the wrong one. Aren't you the one that goes on about "new world order" stuff? You complain about that stuff but embrace the EU? This is amazing.

Yes yes Godwin's Law. Funny how now that's being used to dismiss completely valid comparisons.

What All Else Failed is pushing is exactly the kind of xenophobic attitudes used in the far right to justify actions against other cultures.

Ed, when in 100 years large portions of Europe are basically a more temperate middle east, you'll see what I'm trying to say.

Well, we will both be dead but, yeah.

You're going to have to explain that a little better I'm afraid. Are you suggesting that Europe is being taken over by muslims?
