The Olympics is no judge of which country has the best team. Canada probably has the best players on paper but when you do not have much time to prepare as a team it is nothing more than all stars cobbled together with the best of the rest.

So strange things can happen.

And I hate Crosby so I am just gloating that he was unable to highhandedly win the game for Canada.

It is too bad the NHL does not learn for the Olympics and get the tv time outs removed. With technology today there is no excuse for the delays. The pace in the Olympics is tremendous.
in response to the bolded part...it's actually Russia that has the best team on paper.
They are the favourites to beat.

Roberto Luongo takes over between the pipes in place of Martin Brodeur as Team Canada faces Germany this afternoon. It's win or stay home for the Canadians...did they make the right decision in benching their legendary goaltender?

To be honest, from what I saw of the Canada v USA game, Canada lost it because of their arrogance. They seemed to think that all they had to do was show up and they would win.

You can put alot of blame on Brodeur being a monkey and deciding for himself to give them a couple of goals.
The team didn't play all that well but Brodeur was truly a tool.
As much as I hated to admit it, I wanted to see Loo start that game.
OK. I'll blame Brodeur. I like to have some one to blame.

FIE ON THEE, BRODEUR!!!! FIE ON THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

No, not even close, it boils down to them playing hesitantly, if you've seen our team in the past, they have a way of finding themselves in the penalty box for being overly aggressive.
Then add an entire nation not only expecting them to win every game, they're expected to win the gold. That's a ton of pressure. No other team (Except maybe Russia) has that sort of pressure on them.
Which they're clearly trying to avoid (they clearly didn't in that game).
Add to that a goalie who's very predictable. Brodeur likes to play the puck, he's left handed so he's always going to try clear the puck to the left side of the boards. So it really wasn't rocket science to dump the puck in, let him play it and have two players waiting on the left hand side of the boards, Viola! ample scoring chances for the US. add to that his constant need to try be a sixth D man instead of being a goalie.
I'm not saying Loo would have faired any better, with his constant "oh I got slightly touched, I need to flop around like a fish for 5 minutes to try draw a penalty!"
But I like to think he wouldn't have tried to play the puck so often and let the D do their jobs. Simply put, Brodeur was his own worst enemy. When you're goalie is taking hances like that, it makes the whole team have to work harder. Less focus on offence and more focus on defence. Intodays modern hockey, defence doesn't win games.
As much as I love my Team Canada, and will always stand up for them...Unless they pull their heads out of their asses, they're not going to medal at all...I really hate to say it, but I think Stevie Y dropped the ball on this one.

I'm of the frame of mind, they need this extra game with Germany to get thier poop in a group. Clue in that Loo should have been the starter all along (After all it is his building they're playing in) Brodeur has a laundry list of accomplishments, but his day is done. Let Loo and M.A Fleury take over.
That's my 2¢

I also need two cups of coffee before I post yeesh...this post is all over the place

Canada always takes longer to get going, which sucks in short tournaments such as this one. I think the extra game against Germany will be good. Yes. Good. Frick, Germany scares me. They ALWAYS play us tough. :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

Well considering they're 0-0-4 or something like that, I'm not too worried.

Add to that, if the team gets eliminated today, it'll be Stevie-Ys one and only shot at being GM, Everyone will call for his head on a spit.
As I said before and stand by it, I don't like how this team was put together. there should have been players on the team that didn't make it.
Seriously, Joe Thornton? give me a break, the guys as useful as tits on a board.
That's when I knew things were going straight down hill.
