Darth Maul lives? WHY?
I think unless you were there it is so hard to describe what the summer of 1977 was like. I was 5 years old, but i just remember it was the must see movie for EVERYONE! It didn't matter your age, your taste in movies, chances you would love it. The movie stayed in theaters all summer long through the fall and I believe up to Christmas. The funny thing about that time was without home video, the movie theater was the only way to see it cause you had to wait years for it to make it to TV. lol
I'd really like to see a mini-series or something based on the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy, by Tim Zahn.

I know that one of the "what if" one-off stories did bring him back but those were not applicable to the EU

The discrepancies aren't suprising, though, when you consider the number of years between the originals and the prequels.
I understand entirely - the prequels are alright, though Jar Jar Binks is just plain annoying.
What bothers me is how much changed between the original trilogy and the prequels, though. If you read the novelization of Return of the Jedi, using the original movie script, you'll find that much of Revenge of the Sith no longer makes sense. Anakin's wife had never told him she was pregnant, which is why Darth Vader never assumed previously that he'd had children - she left him before she could tell him since he'd already turned to the dark side. She was on Alderaan with the Organas, and lived there with them and Leia until she died while Leia was young - which is why Leia says in Return of the Jedi that she can remember images of her mother, and Luke can't remember anything (since he was on Tatooine with the Lars family, who were original Obi-Wan's family and not Anakin's step-family). Then when you think of the other prequel movies - Yoda was supposed to have been Obi-Wan's instructor, but they made him Qui-Gon's Padawan.
So yes, I definitely prefer the originals - and while I do enjoy the prequels, the inconsistencies tend to aggravate me when I watch them.
