Re: Best Starfleet Captain?

Honestly? I like Janeway's style. She knows when to be serious, but she doesn't let that stop her from having a personal life.

I mean, obviously the captains are going to have a personal life, but you get a better look at Janeway's through her time in the holodeck - a better look of her character, who she really is behind the captaincy, and what she really yearns for. I find I can relate to her in that manner, or at least in a similar manner.

Though I'm also fond of Kirk. I watch the original series obsessively every weekday. I prefer Janeway as a person, but Kirk's more fun to watch.

How about a Star Trek entirely from the perspective of a race within the series. Say Romulans or Klingons, instead of the Federation?

I'd watch if it was from the perspective of the Romulans... but in the timeline, the Romulan empire is in pieces following the Reman coup.

You would not watch it from Klingon POV? Personally, I think I'd prefer that to Romulans.

Do you guys read the graphic novels? I've never read one or a comic. I'm like the casual fan.

I liked the Cardassians more, but the Romulans were decent. I like a race with a sense of humour.

You know my biggest problem with other races? Their ships are always so darkly lit. Like humans are the only race not investing in smoke machines and dim coloured lightbulbs.

I'm watching DS9 right now (towards the end of Season 6) and I've loved every minute of it. I didn't watch it the first time around because it was syndicated and the show schedule kept changing around or it got preempted for sports and such. But it's really a dark and cerebral Star Trek, and the Cardassians are very intriguing in it. The portrayal of the Klingons in the series is interesting as well, but again... they're very one dimensional, much like the Jem'Hadar. The interplay between the Bajorans and Cardassians from years of Cardassian occupation of the technologically inferior Bajorans is something that made the series incredibly compelling. I view the Cardassians as something like the Nazis or even Islamists, with the Bajorans being the space version of Jews... a very religious and stubborn people.

I have noticed that about the ships of other races... well, mainly just the Klingons, Romulans, and the Borg. You didn't see a lot of that during Voyager outside of the Kazon, and of course the aforementioned Borg.

My favorite non-human races of the Star Trek franchise have got to be the Bajorans, Romulans, and Cardassians in that order.

I liked DS9 a lot too, it had a very different feel to the other series, and sometimes the politics got a little heavy, but all the same :) I liked the relationship Jadzia had with Sisko, though I couldn't help thinking of her as a goa'uld host rather than a Trill. And the Ferengi make me laugh :p
