Here's the problem. According to your opinion, ie. the Christian faith, there are billions of souls that are damned to hell because they had the misfortune to be born in the wrong place and the wrong time.

Humans have to be the most egocentric species that has ever existed.

I find it more disappointing that those who choose to believe in God don't truly understand that he CANNOT answer prayers. You would need to fully understand that if you are omnipotent (all knowing) then everything that is going to happen throughout all of time is already known, God's plan. Every decision, every thought, every action, every atrocity that will happen is known until the end of time. And if that's the case then he cannot answer a prayer or change his plan for you because he already knows the outcome.

I suppose one could argue God knew you were going to pray. So he decided to answer your prayer before the universe even existed. But the argument fails because deep down everyone knows God doesn't answer prayers. Many Christians will even admit this. They say the purpose of prayer isn't to get God to do something. But rather to draw close to God and obtain peace of mind.
