Now please help me out here, how can you say this was the actions of a perfect god?
Ok, lets for the sake of argument take the Bible as truth. There were some bad men in the world but you honestly cant tell be they were all bad, The Bible itself says -

so god said I am going to wipe men whom I have created off the surface of the ground, from man to domestic animal, to moving and to flying creatue of the heavans, because I do regret that I have made them. - Genisis 6:7

Hmm, he regrets making them, dosen't sound like someone who is perfect to me.

So what was mankind doing that was so bad? Lets look to the Bible once again -

For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; - Matthew 24:38

Dosent sound so bad, who of you can say this isn't what you get up to? Ok, you argue, I'm taking it out of context. Fair point, lets read on in the next verse shall we?

and they took no note untill the flood came and swept them all away - Matthew 24:39

So it was taking no note that was their downfall? Ok, say some beardy old man started making a big box and collecting a zoo in it. If he told you to join him on it, wouldn't you think him a nutter and stay away? I'm sure you would. So is this a good reason for you to be drowned? Hmmm...

Hi,

I think the flood story in bible is the last thing you should invoke to prove that God is not perfect. The flood story, though we all know through Bible, has been part of most mythologies like Greek, Indian, Chinese, German etc etc. Its just a cultural myth.

just read the wikipedia entry on 'deluge myth'..here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deluge_(mythology)

As the wiki article says " flood stories have been inspired by ancient observations of fossil seashells and fish inland and on mountains to gain ground."

I believe in God and all. But I don't think whatever the Bible says is factually correct in all aspects. It is at best a cultural treasure.

i think theres scientific proof that a great flood did take place

scientific proof that there was enough water to cover the globe at one time? Where is this water now?
There is a lot of scientific proof that the earth has endured many large localized floods in the past, but none of a global flood.

there really is proof that there was a flood, and many societies record such a flood. and yes they found "pieces of wood" on mt. arrarat... dont think they ever confirmed that, otherwise the christian riche and the catholic church would OWN that mountain... the pope would fucking live there. I dont believe that boat flood shit cuz, um... 30 days, 50 days, however the fuck long it was, ANIMALS EAT OTHER ANIMALS!:sarcasm

Erm, care to show me definate proof?
Hey, you provide the 2 round trip tickets to Mt. Ararat and I'll show ya where Noah's ark is:thumbup That just proves there was an ark, not that there was a flood which is what you are wanting proof about, right?

More proof: RAINBOWS:
Genesis 9:12 "From now on, when I form a cloud over the Earth and the rainbow appears in the cloud, I'll remember my covenant between me and you and everything living, that never again will floodwaters destroy all life. When the rainbow appears in the cloud, I'll see it and remember the eternal covenant between God and everything living, every last living creature on Earth."

One more thought Peter, if you don't buy my hibernation theory......... maybe all the animals Noah collected and place on the ark were babies?
If they were all babies, they wouldn't be eating each other and they wouldn't need much food to eat either, and they wouldn't take up much space. Hey, anythings possible! Noah was a smart man, I'm sure he thought of the most logical and practical way to pack the ark with all those animals.

I did see a documentary on Discovery or Histroy channel or something about this.

There is evidence that a large flood ocurred back around that time, but it wasn't global. Part of the documentary concluded that it would have been easy for the locals to deduce it was global because it affected the entire world as they knew it. They just didn't know how the big the world was at the time.

The documentary also (if I remember correctly) theorized possible scientific reasoning behind the cause of the flood. It had something to do with a natural levee type barrier on one shore of the Black Sea (I *think* it was the Black Sea) crumbling away suddenly allowing a significant amount of water to rush out and flood hundreds of square miles of plain.

Oooh, almost forgot to add.

There is the belief in Christianity that before the arrival of Jesus, God was a pretty vengeful and unforgiving sort of entity. There's a stark contrast between the old and new testaments in that regard.

Before Jesus (old testament), there's all sorts of nasty things that took place to a great many people. After Jesus (new testament), it's all about love and forgiveness.

It's almost as if Jesus told his pops that he was going about it all wrong and he gave up his life in order to prove it to him. And I guess God saw the error of his ways, or something like that.

Except for that giant petrified boat burried in ice on Mt. Arrarat, I think thats in Turkey.
except they don't even know what it really is. No one has ever got a good look at it. They only have satellite photos of it and even then it could be anything.

No there isn't. Hard science shows that there is no left over evidence geologically of a world wide flood.

oh and old pieces of wood are found ALL THE TIME on mountains.

Not if they are all hibernating. I think its possible that God put the animals into a deep sleep during their time on the ark. Just my own theory.
and Marlyn Monroe lives inside of my head reading poetry to me at night.

No, not really. It could just be an odd rock formation for all we know.

oh for fucks sakes are you serious citing rainbows as proof? I'm sorry but thats really ridiculous. Rainbows are a naturally occurring color spectrum phenomenon.

um have you ever seen a bear cub or a "baby" tiger? They can kill a grown man.

all you are doing is trying to justify your silly belief with pure speculation.

I have never seen a baby bear cub or a baby tiger that was dangerous. Comeon, They are cute and cuddily....don't you watch Animal Planet :cool

I may be speculating, but my belief is not silly to me, maybe to you but not to me.
It is based on faith that God and the Bible are true.
