I think some people try but aren't successful... others don't make the effort.. Others spend money they don't have then when there is a bump in the road they cascade down.

It doesn't matter if you are poor because a poor person that works to provide necessities for his family is better than a rich one spending lavishly money for nothing. A poor man's children work hardly to provide money and then know that every dime is important for life while a rich one just spends money for going one night with a girl or drinking alcohol or these meaningless things that don't add any value to humanity.

The major cause of poverty is lack of quality education and pride. Most people don't have the humility and discipline to work under somebody. Poverty is also an illusion. Some people are not poor in the truest sense of it, they just see themselves as poor while they have all the basic amenities. Once you can feed yourself and cloth and shelter yourself, you are rich.

The cost of living continues to go up, and therefore it's more difficult for those who are in poverty to get out of poverty. Crazy to think this thread was created almost 20 years ago and just how much things have gone up since. I was 15 when this thread was started, didn't have a job and was still in high school and was born into a poor family. My parents would have rather spent their money on beer and cigarettes instead of paying off bills and getting out of debt back when this thread was created. They were selfish, addiction does play a part in it though and it could be why so many people are in poverty as well.

The root of poverty lies in systematic subjugation, whether it is racial, colonial, or political. However, in democracies have chances of improving their lives through education and hard work.

I think one of the major cause of poverty is that we do not put in our very best, like we do not put in 100% of our efforts, but we think we are doing our best.
