GENEVA -- The United Nations has received pleas to help free several Saudi Arabian princesses allegedly being held against their will in a royal compound, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Allegations submitted to the U.N. human rights office claim that several daughters of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia have been held for the past 13 years in the royal compound in Jeddah.

Princesses locked in towers in this day and age? Who would have thought! I shudder to think how many non-royal daughters are being held as virtual prisoners all over the world that don't make the news.

Well in a country where women aren't allowed to drive or to leave the country without consent from their husband or father, it doesn't surprise me. Whether a royal or a commoner, women aren't given freedom in Saudi Arabia.

The women are better off at the compound..since royalty has money no one can really offer a price worthy of consideration.
If one did will he be able to keep her safe?
They can not go out on their own as they have to be accompanied by a family member....If they are in public and get raped they become whores and could be executed....Kidnapping for religious political advantage is very risky.
They are not "imprisoned " because the male members of the family are monsters/ its because they love them and are looking out for their best interest.
A daughter is a disposable item in many nations in the Mid east..they want boys..women are treated like animals and only used for sex...sad but true.
Since the royal family actually cares I would not want to own one of his daughters and take a chance of her being kidnapped or raped.

This age is not any different than olden times....when slavery was practiced and women were merely a medium of sexual enjoyment for men. ( of course they are still).

In Africa even today Jaboya is practiced which means 'sex for fish'. Women 'buy' fish at the cost of 'selling' their sex...ie bartering sex for fish!

In Thailand 'slave fishermen' catch fish to be put on your tables.....but who cares??

Saudia is a monarchy and has its own laws....based mainly on cultural cum religious factors...(though religious factors there are not followed in other places where Muslims live) and doesn't warrant criticism of the type you feel odd. Even in EU etc criticism against Holocaust is crime...20 years straight behind bars. Then in the US and other countries polygamy is crime....all these restrictions are man made and seem strange to one but not strange to another.

Infact,. they are free and when they go out they just tell their family they are going out on a errand only to keep them informed of their whereabouts if they might get late so that they don't worry;

Sorry, The Man, it seems your culture gives women certain rights at a heavy cost.
What would your women do if your state laws prohibited most of the acts your women did? If things were as simple as you stated all the States would be having the same laws.
Your law forbids polygamy and that is a straightaway infringement of human rights.

Have been to your part of the world and elsewhere to the Far East.....was shocked to note a very few men were able to support their wives and children, the greater lot of them screwed women to the finishing point. That was sad for me because in our part of the world women are men's duty...they have to work for their bread, butter and honey, love and care for them and their children. Only in some excruciating circumstances or subject to her 'qualification' does women take to work .....but even then their husbands have NO right over their incomes.
Just imagine your fate IF your state removes the umbrella of health care, dole and duty to give you employment off your heads? Not to speak of your women folk , I bet even your men would turn to Judaism or Islam.
