The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

I'm sure those 83,000 dead would have surrendered if we had blockaded the island and sent in air drops of food. ;)

I think the last Japanese warriors of WWII only surrendered in the 1990's!! :eek

You fighting dirty Intruder. :ninja :D

No way man. There Pacific is simply amazing. Look at the planning/logistics/skill required for just an undefended amphibious landing. Then think about an amphibious landing against a deeply entrenched enemy who is literally dug into the mountains. Then imagine that enemy is so fanatical they won't give up until they're killed. It's fascinating stuff.

The main island of Okinawa is probably about 200 square miles. 100,000 Japanese were defending it. Of the 100,000, 83,000 were killed or wounded. Only 7000 or so were captured. Pure craziness to me.
There's no doubt that the Pacific theater was a strategic orgasm for any war buff, but personally, I like the European theater better because it has a certain level of "romance" to it all. Idk, its hard to explain.
