I think this thread illustrates the importance of religious freedom and freedom in general. I don't agree with many people about their beliefs but I think it is important to respect their right to do so. To say religion shouldn't be tolerated is wrong. Making fun of and being disrespectful of someone'e beliefs is wrong also.

I would definitely agree with that. Good post! :thumbup

Is that athiest for

I just ate a foetus ?

I think foetus is atheist for I just ate a fetus :p

Hehe
Frankly I think the point of any apologist troll rant is to make people believe atheism is a religion, worthy of all the same criticisms as...religion. It becomes this brainless "we suck but you suck worse" banter that isn't at all grounded in reality. Surely christian apologists are sick of atheists having the upper hand in the moral history department (hey, once you've got the crusades on your resume it's hard to win), and while its in their nature to admit these issues, it's also in their nature to draw really stupid conclusions.

I don't think the best way to handle a perceived injustice is with another injustice, though. The high road is always best, even though it puckers your arsehole to travel. ;)

I am still not convinced atheism is catalyst for any of these regimes. Seems to me like these dictators are not atheists, but wannabe gods.

Absolute power corrupts.

Although Joe Kony's "army" has been greatly reduced in numbers since the late 80's, there is a man who is a prime example of a "Christian nut" making war. Key word being "nut". One could argue weather you believe in a higher power or not, people who are power hungry and want that power at the cost of innocent lives have a "nut streak".

As mentioned either here or in another thread, Machiavelli makes for some interesting reading.

Atheism was a central part of the atrocities carried out in the last century. 100 million people were murdered by atheist regimes in the last century simply because they didn't agree with them.

Exactly how was atheism the central part of the atrocities? Did people say "I don't believe in a God so I'm going to kill you"?

I think you'll find that some governments today kill in the name of their God as compared to governments who kill because they don't believe in a god. I also think you'll find that those governments who don't tolerate region who kill do so to keep power rather than due to a lack of morals.

This is what is called a fallacy.
The element of deception that radical elements of fundamentalism and atheism share.

Atheism was a central part of the atrocities carried out in the last century.
No.
Politics was the central part of the atrocities carried out in the last century. Actually, better said, most of mankind's history.
Some leaders were atheist and some not.
For instance, Stalin was an atheist, Hitler was not.

Bizarre as it was, it was not atheism.
Most of the atrocities in the Islamic regions have been instigated and rationalized over religious issues. From the Darius the Great of Persia to the conflicts of today....these were not and are not the acts of atheists.
The Balkans has had a history of strife revolving around religious conflict.
South and Central America has been seen both religious and cultural conflict where atheism was not prevalent.
The US fought a war to stop slavery on it's very own territory where Christians fought Christians over the supposed right of Christians to own slaves.

joe got it correct.
Power corrupts.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The flaw is in man.
It's not what he believes, it's what he wants everyone else to believe so he can control them.
And that includes the violent radical fundamentalist that parades as a Christian.

North Korea is a sad case indeed. Say what you want about any Islamic country North Korea is the most oppressed nation on earth.
